LASC's annual registration event "Southwest Daze" will return on August 26, but this time in a virtual setting. LASC's Business Office website has been updated with new content such as step-by-step instructions to pay student fees online, frequently asked questions and answers (FAQs), and how to contact the office. LASC's women's basketball team is looking for student-athletes for the upcoming season. As you are preparing for your fall courses, consider using Open Educational Resources (OER) that are more current and relevant to your course objectives. Open Educational Resources are accessible anywhere at any time and are available to students on the first day of class. They can include texts, images, and videos to support different learning styles. Finally, they can save students hundreds of dollars. LASC knows there are a lot of questions that students have about the impact the COVID-19 outbreak will have on the college. President Dr. Seher Awan is inviting all students to a virtual town hall at 11 a.m. every Friday to receive updates and chat questions to her. For more information, visit here.
As LASC continues to offer its courses remotely in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic, Internet access will be required for participation in many class activities. Several organizations also offer low-cost Internet access to students. Contact information for the providers is provided here. They include AT&T, which is expanding the Access from AT&T program. This program provides home internet access to qualifying California households with at least one resident who receives Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for $10 a month.
Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is working with the Los Angeles Homeless Service Authority to help students with housing issues.  The Campus Peer Navigator Program aims to connect students who are experiencing homelessness or at-risk of homelessness with resources that can end their housing crisis. Learn more.

  • Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) has released a Framework for Racial Equity and Social Justice. The document speaks to the values of LACCD and directs specific action steps and commitments that will allow its colleges and the district to actively build anti-racist organizational capacity and resilience, and move toward a more socially and racially-just academic community, Chancellor Francisco Rodriguez says.

  • The California Community College Athletic Association Board of Directors has approved the implementation of a contingency plan that would provide a return to intercollegiate athletics for the 2020-21 academic year that shifts all sports, including football, to the spring season. At this time, you can plan to see LASC's football as well as men's and women's basketball teams play again this spring. Learn more.

  • During the COVID-19 outbreak, there will be no on-campus activities/events at any of the nine LACCD colleges, including LASC. There will be no gatherings of more than two people and they will need to exercise social distancing of at least six feet apart. Read more.
  • In response to the City of Los Angeles' Worker Protection Order, all LACCD and LASC employees should utilize cloth face coverings when on District property for employee protection against COVID-19. Vendors should also know that face coverings are required on campus. Read more.

  • Los Angeles County is offering mental health services for individuals suffering loneliness or anxiety amid the pandemic and have set up a number to call for resources. The Department of Mental Health can be contacted 24 hours a day, seven days a week at (800) 854-7771.
  • All of the providers and staff at LASC's Student Health Center operated by Mosaic Family Care are committed to supporting the health and mental health needs of all students.   • COVID-19 Rent Relief is available to renters in Los Angeles County outside of the City of Los Angeles. Learn more.

  • Free training put on by the Community Response System of South Los Angeles Education Recovery Committee to support educators and help students excel in virtual learning is available during workshops in August and September. Learn more.
  • The Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services is aware of the financial impact that the Coronavirus is having on the health and financial well-being of County of Los Angeles residents. The department has provided these resources to help residents who may be experiencing financial challenges due to the pandemic.
  • To assist residential renters who have been economically impacted by the Coronavirus, Los Angeles' Mayor and the City Council have adopted tenant protections on evictions and rent increases in the city.
