Congrats to Los Angeles Southwest College's Class of 2020. The Virtual Recognition Ceremony on June 9 saw hundreds of students recognized for graduating or being candidates for graduation as well as addresses from former Vice President Joe Biden, California Governor Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and U.S. Rep. LASC's Summer Session I is here! Check out the summer schedule and plan to register for classes soon. Summer Session I is from Monday, June 15, to July 19 and Summer Session II is from July 20 to August 23. All classes will be taught online and remotely.

Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) announced its support for the state's Assembly Constitutional Amendment 5 last week . ACA 5 amends the California Constitution by repealing Section 31 of Article I relating to the prohibition against discrimination or preferential treatment to any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting.

SAVE THE DATE: LASC's 2020 Fall Flex Day for employees will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon Thursday, August 27, as well as 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, August 28. LASC's Professional Growth Committee will host Fall Flex Day on Zoom.
Trio Scholars , a federally funded program designed to assist program participants in achieving their educational goals, has released its Graduation/Transfer Celebration newsletter highlighting its graduates. The graduates are fighters who have overcame extreme adversity and will continue to fight for their future. The TRiO Scholars office is extremely proud of the students and encourage them to be tenacious and continue to accomplish their dreams.
LASC students who borrowed books, laptops, or any other items from LASC's Bookstore, Child Development Department, Library, or the Promise program during the 2020 Spring Semester are asked to return these rental items to campus from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, June 22, or Tuesday, June 23.
LASC's Career Center will host an interactive resume workshop on June 24. Attendees will learn critical skills and receive hands-on tips about resume writing as well as detailed instructions and a step-by-step guide on writing effective resumes from our Career Center team.
LASC's Career Center will host a Virtual Job Shadow Career Assessment workshop at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 17. Attendees will be empowered to plan and pursue their dream jobs interactively with our well-trained center staff. Space is limited so register today.

LASC's Theatre Program was recently recognized nationally by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts for their production of "Criminal," an incredibly powerful and moving piece. Learn more about this important work.
  • Do you need to complete your General Education requirements? Do you want a fun class that will lift your spirits? Do you want to learn how to write and perform creatively? Theater 100 is not only a requirement for your degree, but it’s also a creative and fun experience. Learn more about this class offered this Summer Session II.
  • Are you interested in learning and improving your research skills? If so, consider enrolling in this summer's Library Science 101 course to learn and improve your research skills and explore a variety of sources. This one-unit transferable course will teach you strategies to locate sources and evaluate research materials, and will guide you to use information ethically using citation styles.
  • LASC will be offering a couple of great law classes in the months ahead. Register today:
  1. LAW 10: Introduction to Legal Assistant 3 will be offered in Summer Session I. This course analyzes the paralegal profession. Lectures and activities will examine the inner workings of the law office; ethics and professional responsibility; sources of American law; the court system and alternative dispute resolution; and conducting interviews and investigations.
  2. LAW 14: Law Office Management 3 will be offered in Fall Semester. This course applies document production skills based on litigation techniques and strategies. Lectures and activities will examine electronic discovery; ethics; electronic document production; legal timekeeping and billing and litigation management. Students will prepare complaint forms and discovery documents.
  • Congratulations to our newest tenured faculty! LACCD's Board of Trustees recently approved the following LASC faculty for making tenure: Gail Amos, Stephanie Arms, Dimetros Dammena, Yancy Duncan, Jonathan Pope Evans, Lauren Evans, Martin Martirossian, Parisa Samaie, and Katrina Taylor.
  • In the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak, federal student loan payments are suspended through September 30.
  • During the COVID-19 outbreak, there will be no on-campus activities/events at any of the nine LACCD colleges, including LASC. There will be no gatherings of more than two people and they will need to exercise social distancing of at least six feet apart. Read more.
  • In response to the City of Los Angeles' Worker Protection Order, all LACCD and LASC employees should utilize cloth face coverings when on District property for employee protection against COVID-19. Vendors should also know that face coverings are required on campus. Read more.
