Los Angeles Southwest College (LASC) celebrated its students who worked so hard to graduate at the 2022 Commencement on June 6 at Cougars Stadium. Hundreds of students walked across the stage to receive their diploma. The theme was "Celebrating Hope Through Education." Check out photos here.
Prior to the 2022 Commencement Ceremony, President Dr. Seher Awan dropped off cakes and gifts to some of the college's well deserving graduates at their homes on June 6 to thank them for their dedication to their studies and to LASC. Free Metro bus passes are available to LASC Students. This includes unlimited free rides on Metro bus and rail. Pick up yours from LASC's Bookstore in the Student Services Building on Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as well as at LASC's Business Office in the Student Services Building, Room 103, on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
LASC President Dr. Seher Awan has accepted the position of President at Mission College, one of two colleges of the West Valley-Mission Community College District in Santa Clara. Her last day at LASC will be on or about June 30. Chancellor Rodriguez will share a transition plan and more information shortly to the college. 
LASC's Art Gallery is proud to present the Annual Student Art Exhibition for 2022 featuring works by LASC students from the following visual art classes: Drawing I, Color Theory, Painting and Three-Dimensional Design. LASC's 2022 Summer Session Schedule of Classes, such as Sociology 001, Administration of Justice 1, other Behavioral and Social Sciences classes, as well as Library Sciences 101, can help students discover passions and achieve academic and career goals in a short period of time. Summer Session classes are in two parts: Summer Session I is from June 13-July 17, 2022 and Summer Session II is from July 18-August 21, 2022. There is still time to register. Read more.

The African American Male Education Network and Development (A²MEND) organization has organized the All African Diaspora Education Summit, an international professional learning opportunity taking place in Ghana this Fall. They are hosting a virtual info session about the summit on Monday, June 13, at 4:30 p.m. Register here.

The LACCD Board of Trustees has voted to rescind and/or to modify existing Board Policy 2800 (masking) and Board Policy 2900(vaccinations). 
Effective June 12, Board Policy 2800 will be rescinded and there will no longer be an indoor masking mandate at any of the colleges or District facilities for employees, students or visitors. Also, Board Policy 2900 has been rescinded for students. All continuing and new students will not have to provide proof of vaccinations or have an approved exemption on file in order to enroll in classes or to access college or District facilities.
