Last Day of School
November 30, 2016
Dear St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School Families,

I hope you and your family had a great Thanksgiving break!  Thanksgiving is one of my favorite celebrations because of its simplicity.
Despite the commercialization of many holidays, the focus of Thanksgiving has stayed on point - sharing a meal with family and friends and thanking God for our many blessings.

As I get older, I realize how fortunate I am to have so many blessings.  Here are a few things I am thankful for about St. Francis of Assisi School:
  • For the opportunity to serve the school community.  St. Francis of Assisi School has been one of the most rewarding and enriching experiences of my career.
  • For our school.  I am reminded every day that we are the hands and feet of Christ tending to God's garden.
  • For our students.  They are the reason I do my job.  I get to shape the future every day I go to work.  They remind me of what is beautiful about God's creation.
  • For our faculty and staff.  They are the reason for our success.  Their dedication and passion inspires our students (and me) to be the best they can be.  They change student's lives by guiding, challenging, and inspiring them.
  • For our parents.  Thank you for entrusting us with your children and for partnering with us to provide a bright future.
  • For our Pastors.  Thank you for leading us on our spiritual journey, for reminding us about our true purpose as students, parents, and educators.
  • For our volunteers.  Thank you for your generous gift of time, talent, and treasure. Your support contributes to a healthy and vibrant community.
  • For everyone who approaches life with an attitude of gratitude.  A smile and positive attitude go a long way to make everyday a great day at SFA!
May the blessings of Thanksgiving be with you always.  As we enter the new Church Year, let us purposely move towards the hope that comes from the great celebration of Jesus' birth.

WOLF NEWS - St. Francis Student Reports
Feeding the Hungry
by Mia Fairchild

Each year, St. Francis holds its Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive to collect food for charities. The food is given to churches like St. Martin de Porres Church, who then distribute the food to charities. But haven't you ever wondered where it went after the churches?

The Thanksgiving Food Drive has been held at St. Francis since the school opened. Since then, donations have greatly increased, and this year, 12-15 bags of food were distributed to charities from St. Martin de Porres Church. The food distributed to St. Martin's goes to people that come to the churches who are homeless, are having financial difficulties, have someone ill in their family, and more.

Donating food, clothes, etc. to charity can make you feel happy that you helped someone in need, but it's about way more than that. It can make someone's day just to receive a simple act of kindness from another. Because of donations made to charities and the homeless, a person can be fed Thanksgiving dinner that they may not otherwise have had.

I bet it's been awhile since you've really thought about the main origins of the Thanksgiving Food Drive and where it really all goes. Next time you hand in food or clothes to charities, you can think about the people receiving them and how happy you've made them. Happy Holidays to everyone!
