Dear Parents and Guardians of St. Francis of Assisi School,

This Monday, we were joined by some very special guests at our Community Prayer Service.  Every branch of the military was represented by parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Our loved ones who serve and/or have served were honored by one of our Girl Scout Troops as the community said a prayer of blessing for their service and sacrifice.  Our Country is richly blessed by our men and women who have served since the days of our Founding Fathers. We, the community of St. Francis of Assisi School, felt privileged to recognize these heroes on our holy ground.

Our teachers have already begun preparing for an important time next week, where we reserve two days to meet with our parents and discuss the growth we are seeing in your children.  This is a treasured time where our conferences embody the partnership between home and school. A gift of Catholic education is that parents are the primary faith educators, and at St. Francis of Assisi School, this is a critical component to whole child education.  We will discuss data points, writing samples, report cards, and goals for your children but the most important conversation is how they are growing as human beings and disciples!

Next week, we launch our Annual Fall Book Fair with the theme of "Arctic Adventure."  I find this ironic with our 80 degree weather in sunny southern California. Our families have been incredibly generous with their purchases and participation over the past few years which resulted in a significant balance of Scholastic Dollars.  This Summer, we utilized Scholastic Dollars to purchase new student carpets for early childhood classrooms and flexible stool and mushroom seats for 1st - 4th grade, to support small group and project based learning. Additionally, our teachers are given books for their classroom libraries and every year, we are able to add a significant amount of new titles to our school library.  We thank you in advance for shopping and supporting our students love of reading!

SCHOOL NEWS
Parking Lot Safety
Please restrain from using your cell phone once you enter the school and church parking lots.  We want to make sure everyone is safe.
Santa Clara Parking Privilege
Fr. Fred has observed that students are running through the Sanctuary to use the parish bathrooms after school.  Students must use the restrooms at school before walking down the hill.  There is no supervision in the bathrooms and we cannot ensure their safety.  It is a privilege to have use of Santa Clara's parking lot and we want to keep our partnership positive!
Christmas Program
A few reminders for the upcoming Christmas Program:
  • If you have turned in your permission slip and field trip fee, you will receive your tickets at the Parent Conference with your oldest student.
  • December 11 will be a regular schedule for the school day.
  • Extended Care on Decmeber 11 will end early at 5 pm so that students and staff can get to Servite on time.
  • There is no lunch service/DC Dining on December 11.  Students must bring a sack lunch to school that day.

Continue to check the weekly newsletter for updates.
