Dear St. Francis of Assisi Parents and Guardians,

As our children navigate the new world of devices, online games and social media sites, it is critically important for parents to be empowered with the knowledge and the tools to protect their kids in a digital world.  There are lots of ways to manage and monitor your child's digital activities, but the most important thing to do is talk to your kids.  An open and honest conversation is the most significant weapon we have to protect our kids and teach them how to safely use the internet.  Parents need to know that they don't have to know everything, but they need to know enough to start a conversation.  To help parents, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School will host a presentation on cyber safety, "Parenting in the Digital World" on Wednesday, December 13, at 6:30 pm in the Fr. Seamus Glynn Center.

We have invited Clay Cranford, a Sergeant for one of Southern California's law enforcement agencies and the owner of Total Safety Solutions, to speak with our parents. Sergeant Cranford spoke to St. Francis of Assisi School parents last year on this topic.  We've invited him back because parents found his presentation to be very informative and the digital world is constantly evolving.  We want to help you learn how to effectively parent in your child's digital world.

Deputy Cranford has outstanding experience training parents how to engage in their child's digital world.  He is the author of Parenting In The Digital World and travels the country educating students, parents, and law enforcement on social media and child safety.  His experience as a School Resource Officer and a School Threat Assessment professional makes this presentation timely and relevant to our school community. To learn more about Sergeant Cranford visit his website http://cybersafetycop.com/Home.

Your child's safety is very important to us,  so please plan on attending this informative presentation.  We have also scheduled our School Resource Officer, Orange County Deputy Sheriff, Nick Doty, to speak to our 5th - 8th grade students the following day about precautions and helpful habits in regards to online activity.  I look forward to seeing you on December 13 at 6:30 pm in the Fr. Seamus Glynn Center.  Bring friends and neighbors.  Be advised, the presentation is for adults only and kid sitting would be provided in daycare as an East Coast Study Trip Fundraiser.

VOLUNTEER NEWS
Be a Classroom Treasurer!
Plans for the 20th annual auction, Charting the Course, are underway. In the past we have asked each class to create a Class Project that would then be auctioned off to the highest bidder.  This year we have chosen to introduce "Classroom Treasures".  Each classroom will put together a beautifully themed basket to be auctioned off at our Gala event.   We need your help to create these beautiful themed baskets.  If you have always wanted to volunteer and the thought of creating a "project" intimidated you, this is the perfect class role for you.   We have plenty of classrooms still looking to help steer our "treasured baskets" into the right direction.

Please reach out to your child's teacher or go to your teacher's  signup.com home page to volunteer for this fun role.

Please reach out to Tawna Khamo at Tawna.khamo@gmail.com for additional questions or to join.
