Dear Parents and Guardians of St. Francis of Assisi School,

Aesop said, "No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted." We began the season with a generous donor who sponsored the building of a custom nativity scene as they noticed we did not have one. Mr. Rodriguez brought in a live Christmas tree and placed it next to our manger.  Thanks to our Catholic Identity Ministry, they kicked off Advent with a kindness campaign. Ms. Driscol was supplied with hundreds of ornaments. Here was the challenge: do a random act of kindness for someone at school and place an ornament on the tree to represent the gift you have given.

Through high winds and rain, the tree is still standing strong and students continue to pour into the office to place their ornaments on the tree.  These random acts of kindness are witnessed by staff and faculty and have touched their hearts. When our campus is filled with authentic love and concern for one another, the culture of our community is transformed.  This was most evident on the eighth grade field trip yesterday.

We departed from the Fullerton train station and travelled to the Cathedral of Our Lady in Los Angeles.  I was incredibly proud of our students as they respectfully listened and dialogued with David, our 83 year old tour guide who shared amazing detail about the symbolism and thought that went into creating this place of worship.  Students donated their monies to light candles and pray for their friends and family in chapels surrounding the sanctuary. I witnessed some of our girls talking with another elderly volunteer and telling her they would pray for her husband who struggles with dementia.  Our students brought the spirit of St. Francis on this field trip and genuinely shared the love and light of Christ with others. How proud are we of our children as together WE raise them to make a difference in the world.

Lighting the way,

Jeannette Lambert
