Dear St. Francis of Assisi School Parents and Guardians,

I hope that your week off was relaxing and filled with cherished time with family and friends.  As we look ahead, we have three and a half weeks until Christmas break. This time will fly. This week ends our Liturgical year and next Sunday we begin our new year with the first Sunday of Advent.  As faculty on Monday, we talked about setting spiritual New Year's resolutions this week in preparation the upcoming Liturgical season. Our students were offered the Sacrament of Reconciliation at Santa Clara de Asis with priests from all three parishes present to hear their confessions.  What a great way to start the New Year with spiritual house cleaning!

Tomorrow night our Catholic Identity Committee will host its Annual Family Advent Event.  This year the focus is on the symbol of the manger in our Nativity. Much gratitude to Mr. and Mrs. Grant and Mr. and Mrs. King along with their Committee, in preparing a lovely evening for our community and building the mangers for our homes.  When I think of the symbol of the manger, I see this as the first home Jesus was received into when he was born. As we begin this journey of preparation in Advent together, we can think of preparing ourselves as our manger to receive Jesus on December 25 th . What is the status of my manger?  Is it sturdy and strong or unsteady and unstable?  Does it need some work to rebuild and strengthen the structure?

We are blessed to be in this St. Francis of Assisi Community where we can share our faith with one another.  Our students will be preparing for Christmas over the next few weeks and will bring home treasures and treats to share.  Students are singing and preparing for Christmas programs that share the spirit of the season. We will spend time in adoration at Santa Clara (1 st Friday) and on campus in Learning Support (2 nd Friday).  We will celebrate Mass with our second graders next Friday, honoring the feast of the Immaculate Conception and Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of America.  We invite you to come and be fed by the many activities of Advent here over the next few weeks. "Amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever.  Amen." Revelation 7:12

As an SFA community, let us together encourage, lift up and pray for one another in this new Liturgical Year.
