Dear St. Francis of Assisi School Parents and Guardians,

This Saturday, March 2, our St. Francis of Assisi School Academic Decathletes will journey to Santa Margarita High School to compete with other junior high students.  The Academic Decathlon is a rigorous academic competition sponsored by the Diocese of Orange. Schools volunteer to participate and select students they feel will represent the school well in multiple academic subjects - Science, Religion, Social Studies, English, Math, Current Events and Writing. The entire team then competes in a very difficult Logic Competition. Finally, the entire team competes in a Super Quiz. This fifty question test focusing on Religion, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Fine Arts, takes place in an open gym where all spectators can see the score of each team.  The gymnasium is filled with nervous energy and supportive fans from every school.

Our decathletes, Emily E., Emily M., Jake M., Kendall C., Victoria B., Catherine B., Autumn S., Joshua B., Elizabeth S., Jude E., Addison C., Lillian S., Zara L., have made us so proud with their countless hours of studying and hard work with their coaches - who have gone above and beyond preparing the students.  These students not only work hard at their regular academic assignments, they also study their individual topic, Super Quiz topic, and endless logic problems. They did not have an easy topic this year - The Great Depression. They will be studying and reviewing over the next two school days. They would greatly appreciate our prayers and support.

If you have time this Saturday, come and cheer for our team at Santa Margarita High School for the Super Quiz at 12:30 p.m.  Wear our school colors and bring your positive energy to the bleachers. Any student attending Super Quiz receives free dress for their attendance!  If you are not able to attend, please pray for our SFA decathletes on Saturday that their nerves will be calm, their minds sharp, and their hearts filled with our love and support!

Catholic Identity Corner

In last week's gospel, Jesus said to his disciples: "To you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.

This is hard to do! But it is our call to discipleship as Catholic Christians. The liturgical season of Lent is around the corner. Begin thinking about what you would like to do for your prayer, fasting and almsgiving - maybe it begins with loving those who are the hardest to love!
