Dear Parents and Guardians of St. Francis of Assisi School,

Our faculty meet on Monday mornings to start our week in prayer and discuss the upcoming events.  As we began week five of this school year, I focused our discussion on the theme of kindness and shared  this video with teachers in the hope they would share it with their students.  It seems that many of our students have settled in and some have felt comfortable returning to old habits that are not in line with the Spirit of St. Francis.  I believe that we, the faculty, staff, and administration, along with parents, set the example for our students. So, this week, I challenged the faculty to set an example of kindness by leaving a scripture for another staff member who has made a difference in their week.  My hope was that we could start a kindness movement here at SFA.

Current culture supports this effort as AMC theaters in August promoted this advertisement for the non-profit Kindness Campaign .  We make efforts all over campus to support and reinforce positive values and strong moral decision making.  Students in lower grades receive caught being good tickets, campus ministry posts the monthly prayer intentions of our Holy Father, conflict managers are working with students to problem solve and peacefully find resolution, and monthly FIAT awards are given in recognition of students that exemplify our charism.  Our counselor has done an amazing job visiting classrooms and working with students on dealing with their emotions, personal empowerment, and building good communication skills with their peers. Our teachers use faith-based lessons daily that show students how to be Christ-like through their words and actions. Like the song says, "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me."  No one is perfect but together we can work to create a community built on the charism of our patron saint.

Next Friday, October 4, is the feast day of our beloved patron saint, Francis of Assisi.  We will host our feast day liturgy here on campus at 9:30 am with Fr. Fred, pastor of Santa Clara de Asis, as our celebrant.  All families are welcome to attend. In the afternoon at 2 pm, we hold our annual Blessing of the Animals. All are welcome to bring their dogs, cats, hamsters, bunnies, turtles, birds, fish, lizards, or any other pet that may be part of your family.  The priests and deacons from our tri-parish will join us for a special blessing over all of the animals. This day is a long standing tradition for our community, and is one of the highlights of the year for our students.

In peace,

Jeannette Lambert
