Dear Parents and Guardians of St. Francis of Assisi School,

On January 30, the community came together for an event called "Dare to Dream."   All were invited and many came to spend time in community and conversation around reimagining the Capital Campaign. Since the Campaign was paused last year, we had the opportunity to evaluate and reassess the needs of our community.  Our parents dared to dream and began to visualize what their heart's desires are for their children at St. Francis of Assisi School and beyond. One parent said, "with this constantly changing world....I want and believe our children must learn to be curious, adaptable, flexible, and creative."  Another parent said, "I hope my children love learning, continue to thrive with intellectual curiosity, and have an abundance of support and faith from those that surround them."

Imagine a facility where we could worship together as a whole school, provide advanced learning opportunities in language arts, hold assemblies or performances on campus, host athletic events on a home court without worry of weather conditions, and prepare food in a full-size kitchen for students eating under a shelter of protection from the elements.  Envision with me a two-story multi-purpose facility that serves the needs of our whole community both during the school day and after school for athletics and enrichment. The footprint for this dream was formed over 20 years ago when the initial plans for this school were developed. Rather than complete the final phase of construction for this facility, Fr. Seamus and San Antonio de Padua Parish chose to pay off all debts for the school and set up an endowment fund, where the annual interest helps to support a portion of our tuition assistance.  To bring this dream to life, we will all need to come together, not to fund the project ourselves, but to use our collective voices and resources to seek external funding for this important work.

One need we cannot wait on is our lower grade Science education.  Several years ago, our parents invested in the Fund An Item to purchase FOSS Kits, content-rich curriculum fully aligned with NGSS standards.  Mrs. Maffia, K-5 Science Teacher, has worked hard to implement this curriculum traveling from room to room with 3 push carts and serving 12 classrooms, with a modified work station in the faculty lounge.  She sets up mobile experiments, at times with minimal supplies due to lack of space on the cart. When the rain and wind pick up, she can be seen chasing her supplies across campus as they blow away in transit.  Our kids deserve better and Mrs. Maffia has so much more she would love to offer our students with this program. We can provide her with a classroom that has proper storage, space to prepare full experiments for every grade level, sinks and eye wash stations, and room to provide further exploration with robotics, engineering, and astronomy.  Please prayerfully consider supporting this year's Fund An Item to provide a STEM Lab for our K-5 students and update our iMac computers to mobile laptops. Our iMacs are 7 years old and are now at their end of life. We will reimagine our technology class to a push-in model where the technology teacher will travel with 30 Macbook Air Laptops to support learning for Kindergarten through Eighth Grade.  Our goal is to raise $45,000 during the live auction Fund An Item and bring this dream to reality for our students. Our community shows its strength when we come together to meet the needs of our children. Thank you in advance for your support and I look forward to seeing everyone at The Greatest Show on March 14!

A million dreams,

Jeannette Lambert

Dr. Seuss Day

STEM Night
Spring Conferences
This year we added a day for Spring Conferences.  This is an OPTIONAL day for parents to meet with their children's teachers should they feel the need for additional dialogue and planning for their student's success.  We have been focusing as a school community on building a growth mindset for all of our students.  This takes strong collaboration between school and home, keeping the lines of communication active and engaged.

Sign-ups are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Any additional families who want to conference with teachers and cannot be accommodated on this conference day can schedule them according to your teacher's availability. Regular daycare (Daycare Room) will be available to those currently enrolled. DC Kidsitting is available for drop-in at the Seamus Glynn Center should you need help with your children for just the conference time. Donations are highly encouraged for our East Coast Study Trip.
