Dear St. Francis of Assisi School Parents and Guardians,

One of the greatest gifts we have in Catholic elementary education is preparing students for a sacrament.  Mrs. Fernandez and Mrs. Haselby work hard all year to prepare students first for the sacrament of Reconciliation and then for the Sacrament of Eucharist.  Our students are blessed with the beautiful witness of faith they have in their teachers, who not only share their faith in words but also in how they live their lives.

For the past few weekends, our St. Francis of Assisi second grade students have been making their First Communion at their home parish - St. Martin de Porres, San Antonio de Padua, and Santa Clara de Asis.  It was my joy last week to serve the Second Grade communion at our all-school liturgy. I saw the fruit of their preparation in how they received communion and how reverent they were throughout the liturgy.

Tomorrow we will culminate our celebration with our First Communicants at May Crowning.  This beloved tradition brings us all to a place where we slow down and focus on our Blessed Mother, who is a beautiful role model, our greatest advocate, and reflects the love of Christ like no other.  This week we have opened the office doors to hear the angel voices of our students as they have rehearsed tirelessly for this very special and memorable occasion. Please bring your rosary and plan on joining us tomorrow at 10 am to honor Our Lady and celebrate our First Communicants.

In Mary's mantle,

SCHOOL NEWS
May Crowning
Thursday, May 23 we will be having our May Crowning Celebration.  We are asking each student (2nd Grade NOT included) to bring a flower on Thursday morning.  These flowers will be used to gift Our Lady with a beautiful bouquet from each classroom.

SFA Family Night
Our annual SFA Family Night will be Friday, June 7th out on the field.  This year we will be having LIVE music from the cover band "Crowd Theory", a jumbo screening of How to Train your Dragon and dinner from La Reina Markets.  Tacos will be a la carte for $3, two tacos, rice and beans for $8 and a large quesadilla for $4.  The Girl Scouts will be selling drinks and desserts and the Boy Scouts will be supplying free popcorn.  All proceeds from this night will benefit the Father Seamus Tuition Assistance Fund. Bring the family, friends and neighbors for an exciting night under the stars!

Safety Concern
Whether you pick up at Santa Clara or in the school parking lot, there are students walking everywhere at pickup time.  Please drive slowly and cautiously through all parking lots.  Several students were almost hit by cars backing out yesterday in Santa Clara parking lot.  Thank you for driving carefully to keep our children safe!

COMMUNITY NEWS

Us in the Son was established in 1979 and is a Catholic based day camp that focuses on the qualities of the rainbow; love, courage, joy, growth, peace, faith, and hope. Throughout the summer we sing songs, do crafts, travel to the beach and the park, and praise the Lord. We are so excited to be kicking off the 41st summer of Us in the Son! We welcome all returners and newcomers!

Campers are placed into color groups based on their age -- purples are the youngest (Pre-K and K) and reds are the oldest (5th and 6th graders). Throughout your child's time at camp they will learn the importance of these qualities, engage in a variety of activities, make new friends, and understand the meaning of God's love. A week at camp includes plenty of crafts, singing, and games at the church campus, as well as a trip to the park on Tuesday! For more information and registration details, click the link.
