Dear St. Francis of Assisi School Parents and Guardians,

In Luke Chapter 2, it says that a multitude of angels sang, "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!"   At St. Francis of Assisi School, we have been enjoying songs from a multitude of angels as well. Mrs. Lodin, our music teacher, has been preparing students for the past month for our beautiful Christmas programs from Kindergarten through Fifth grade. She put many hours of work into preparation behind the scenes and truly created an amazing experience for our community. It is so evident that parents, students, and teachers have spent much time rehearsing the songs for their performances. Thank you parents for your time and support! Each class has shared the story of Christ's birth, complete with angels, shepherds, and wise men. My heart has been so filled with joy with their angelic voices and precious storytelling. I hope that you too feel the Christmas spirit after attending our programs.

This weekend we celebrate Gaudete (means rejoice) Sunday, by lighting the pink candle on our Advent Wreath.  The Church celebrates the joy we all experience with the coming of Christ's birth. As a Catholic elementary school, we help the students focus on the true meaning of Christmas, rather than the commercialism of this holiday.  Children are, at times, flooded with images of new toys and technologies that advertisements promise will make them feel happy.

I hope that together we can partner to share with our students the true reason for the season.  Without the yes from Mary and her leap of faith, Christ would not have been born. Without the birth of Christ, there is no birthday celebration, or hope in the resurrection.  Without Joseph's trust in the angel's message, Christ would not have been safe from Herod. We are the hands and feet of Christ. Through our witness and example of sharing Christ's life, love and hope with others, we bring the real meaning of Christmas into our homes and out to our communities.  May your homes be filled with the joy of this Season in the coming week!
