Dear St. Francis of Assisi Parents and Guardians,

"Education is not the filling of a vessel but the lighting of a fire."

I see this quote by William Butler Yeats every day. It's on the wall above my desk. The transformative power of an effective teacher is something all of us have experienced and understand on a personal level. I hope all of our students have memories of special teachers who made school exciting and interesting - someone who inspired, encouraged, and believed in us, someone who taught us to believe in ourselves. I know our teachers strive to be "that" teacher by enriching the lives of their students.

Last week the parents of St. Francis of Assisi School celebrated our teachers and staff for their critical role in educating and shaping our children. The teachers and staff were treated like royalty all week, highlighted by messages of encouragement and thanks, beautiful flowers, special gifts, and of course, lots of great food. The outpouring of generosity was overwhelming.

I am grateful for St. Francis of Assisi School parents who recognize the great work of our teachers and staff. Thank you for recognizing what I see every day - teachers arriving early and staying late, planning, preparing, and meeting to address their students' educational needs.  Our teachers get to know their students while encouraging, supporting, and loving them to help mold good character while modeling Christian values. We are truly blessed to have teachers who serve with selfless dedication.

I know I speak for the entire staff when I express my gratitude to all our families who shared their time and resources to support our teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week as well as throughout the school year. From the flowers, special treats, gifts, breakfast and luncheon, you came together in a great show of support for our wonderful educators. Thank you for your thoughtful and generous support. A special thanks to Tracy Foye and her team for coordinating a wonderful week of recognition. The week was filled with big smiles and kind words of gratitude. It was a warm reminder of appreciation for the partnership between school and home to educate, encourage, and inspire our children.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Us In The Son Day Camp and Leadership Camp

Us in the Son Day Camp

Us in the Son is based on the qualities of the rainbow. Our campers are placed into color groups based on age -- purples are the youngest (Pre-K and K) and reds are the oldest (5th and 6th graders).

Throughout your child's time at camp they will learn the importance of these qualities, engage in a variety of activities, make new friends, and understand the meaning of God's love. A week at camp includes plenty of crafts, singing, and games at the church campus, as well as a trip to the park and beach!

Volunteering & Leadership Camp

Us in the Son Day Camp would like to invite all 7th-12th graders to join us for a summer of servant-ship! Being an Us in the Son volunteer is extremely rewarding and gives young teenagers great leadership opportunities and allows them to bond with the young campers. Throughout the summer we also offer special opportunities especially for our fabulous volunteers, such as Leadership Camp and "love-letter" writing parties. Leadership Camp is a thrilling weekend retreat in the mountains where volunteers  compete for the "Holy Grail" while learning valuable leadership skills that will become helpful during their week volunteering at Day Camp.

Registration and more information can be found on www.usintheson.com
