Dear St. Francis of Assisi School Parents and Guardians,
As we wind down and finish final preparations for our Christmas celebrations, we can feel the excitement building for our students and staff to have time away with their families. Every classroom has been focusing on wrapping up projects and assessments and ensuring that students have learned as much as possible in 2018 before they relax on their sixteen day break! We are so proud of how hard our students work every day and it brings us great joy to see their growth through the year - spiritually, emotionally, and academically.
Yesterday, I had the honor of accompanying the Eighth grade class on their field trip to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in Los Angeles. As we were waiting for the train, there were some parishioners from St. Martin de Porres Church also waiting for the train and they complimented us on how well behaved our students were. We took the train to Union Station and walked to the Cathedral, where we had a tour of the history and symbolism of this beautiful worship space. Our students volunteered to altar serve and bring up the gifts. As their Principal, I was glowing with pride with how respectful they all were during our time at the Cathedral. The Presider from Mass thanked our school for visiting and then personally came over to greet our students and thanked them again for visiting the Cathedral. We then walked to Philippe's for lunch, spent time exploring Olvera Street and returned home on the train.
I share this with you to thank you for partnering with us. I believe that the years of formation our students receive at home and here at St. Francis of Assisi School, help to shape them into mature young men and women who are faithful, respectful and demonstrate a good moral compass. Your investment in Catholic education and the sacrifice of your time and talents truly makes a difference in the lives of your children. Thank you for all that you do to support administration, staff and faculty and most importantly, your students. May the spirit of St. Francis be with you and your loved ones throughout this holiday break. And may each of your families experience the true meaning of Christmas, that we may be renewed as a community to journey together in the new year!
Christmas blessings,
Jeannette Lambert
Principal

Welcome to the first installment of the PAB Corner. Wh
at is the St. Francis
School Parent Advisory Board (PAB)?
We are a group of parents just like you who meet monthly to work with the school administration to keep St. Francis
School on the path toward being one of the top Catholic schools on the planet! We can't do this without you. Parents are the most important part of the process. We need your ideas, thoughts and recommendations. If you see a process that can be improved, we want to know. If you feel another school has a
different program or a unique program that could work here, please tell us. Together we can all make St. Francis
School that shining star our kids deserve. Thank you for being a St. Francis
School parent!

The Four Themes of Advent Weeks in Review:
- The 1st Sunday of Advent symbolizes Hope with the "Prophet's Candle" reminding us that Jesus is coming.
- The 2nd Sunday of Advent symbolizes Faith with the "Bethlehem Candle" reminding us of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem.
- The 3rd Sunday of Advent symbolizes Joy with the "Shepherd's Candle" reminding us of the Joy the world experienced at the coming birth of Jesus.
- The 4th Sunday of Advent symbolizes Peace with the "Angel's Candle" reminding us of the message of the angels: "Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men."
Many advent wreaths have a white candle in the middle called the Christmas Candle that is
added to complete the wreath on Christmas day!
