Dear Parents and Guardians of St. Francis of Assisi School,

We are seven weeks into school and already planning for our Open House event in January.  We look forward to rolling out the red carpet and welcoming our current and prospective families to tour our beautiful campus.  There is a spirit with our Open House that is unlike any other Catholic School. I believe anyone who travels up East Side Circle feels that they have stepped on holy ground when they walk through our gates.  It is the spirit and commitment of our families, who are dedicated to creating a community built on prayer, tradition, perseverance, and most importantly love.

In the Journal of Catholic Education, I recently read a research article on "The Catholic School Advantage" which found that there are significant benefits for students enrolled in Catholic Education.  ( Fleming, D. J., Lavertu, S., & Crawford, W., 2018)   Some of the benefits included; having the necessary skills for educational success, e.g. study skills, organization, etc., higher GPA's for their first year in college, and an increased likelihood of completing a four year degree from a University.  There is an increased number of graduates with STEM degrees who began their education in a Catholic school environment. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2017 showed that the amount of STEM jobs that will be available in the coming years will surpass the number of students with qualified degrees for those positions.  What parent wouldn't want to set their child up for future success?

This is why I love being a Catholic School Principal!  I believe in the personalized approach our teachers take with each student in their classroom.  I appreciate the dedication, hard work, and care the teachers model through their vocation of education.  I am grateful for our parents who work hard to support Catholic education and partner with our staff, faculty, and administration to chart the course towards success for their children.  Recently, three of our graduates were chosen as leaders for the Freshman Class at Rosary Academy. These young women are shining examples of the great work our SFA alumni continue to do when they journey beyond our campus.

Perpetually proud,

Jeannette Lambert
Principal
