Dear Parents and Guardians of St. Francis of Assisi School,

"Let your faith be bigger than your fear."

This saying has been posted all over social media during the past few weeks.  Today, I believe this message is so very important. Every day we are hearing new reports in the news that would frighten any reasonable person.  As we try to slow down the virus in our country, it seems we are being isolated more and more. These are challenging times for all of us as we try to wrap our mind around this worldwide pandemic and the impact it is having on each of our lives.  This is precisely the time we are called to place our trust, faith and hope in God. God is so much bigger than all of this!

As Catholic Christians, we are all about community and coming together to worship our God, celebrating the Sacraments, and remembering that we are not alone.  Fr. Fred shared in his last homily on Tuesday that we take Christ with us as we receive Him in Communion, as He then becomes part of our entire being. I love this image that through the reception of Eucharist, we as a faith community, embody Christ and bring His love to others through all that we say and do.  It is more important than ever that we remain connected to one another - even if it is through use of current technologies. Our teachers and aides have worked long hours preparing for distance learning and exploring ways for us to stay virtually connected as a faith-based school community.

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to have a conversation with all of our families who came on campus to pick up student work and supplies.  We are so thankful for each and every one of you - vital members of this St. Francis of Assisi a School community. We recognize that distance learning places additional strain on our families, especially working parents, but we want you to know that you are not alone!  Our administration, faculty, and staff are here (virtually) to continue this educational journey with you and your children. There may be some bumps along the way, but I have faith that if we keep our lines of communication open, together we will find solutions. Let us practice patience, kindness, and compassion in our homes, in the grocery stores, and with one another as we journey through unchartered territory.  Be assured of our prayers with the words from St. Paul to the Ephesians, "Peace be to the whole community, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ."

Walking in faith,

Keeping Our Students Healthy
Local health officials continue to emphasize common-sense steps to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses, including:
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth
  • Staying home when you are sick
  • Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throwing the tissue in the trash
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe
  • Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing (If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.)
