Dear St. Francis of Assisi School Parents and Guardians,

Thank you to all parents who attended our first parent meeting last Thursday.  The meeting was well attended and your presence is very much appreciated. I am inspired to see so many parents taking time out of their busy schedules to learn more about what is happening at St. Francis.  Thank you as well to all of our volunteer committee chairs who spent time sharing their service opportunities. We appreciate all of our parent volunteers who help make a difference in our school community.

At the meeting, I discussed our focus on growth mindset and highlighted how this is impacting all areas of our school community this year.  Together as educators and parents, we are partnering to coach and empower our students to discover who they are and who they want to become.  The journey from Pre-school to Eighth grade is the longest in their academic career at any one school. At St. Francis of Assisi, it is about so much more than just academics.  Our goal is to develop Christ-centered, well-rounded, confident, capable citizens who are productive and contributing members of society. We want them to see their part in the greater vision of our world.  While homework has an essential place in the educational program, our newly revised homework policy reflects a more balanced approach to practicing skills already taught in class during the school day. Please take time to read our revised policy.

Learning is about providing opportunities to help our students grow socially, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and academically.  At school, students have opportunities to build social skills with peers, grow in faith through prayer and service, and establish strong academic habits that provide foundation for life-long learning.  At home with the family, the world is available for learning to continue. We want families to have time together as this is critical to their development and growth as well. Families can grow essential life skills by simply spending time together.  As the primary educators, families model the growth mindset through daily activities and intentional time spent together, such as taking a walk in nature, playing team sports, enrolling in scouts, participating in the fine arts, and attending weekly Mass on Sunday.  Together, we are helping students set goals, address challenges, struggle with new information, hone in on strengths, and assimilate classroom learning with things learned in daily life - beyond the walls of the classroom. Everything we do at school and home is learning!  Thank you for your partnership on this journey!

Extended Care Director - Jacqueline Lorenz
We are excited to have a new Daycare Director, Jacqueline Lorenz, for the 2018-2019 school year! As we begin this year we want to highlight our staff so you know who is caring for your children.  We hope to provide a positive, faith-filled environment for students to complete homework, enjoy a snack, and spend time with friends.

"I am excited to take on a new leadership role here at St. Francis because working with students is my most important vocation. As the Extended Care Director, I can combine my academic, volunteer, and previous work experiences to provide a holistic environment for our students to foster their development, even after school. I hope to bring a positive environment for our Extended Care and invite students and families to join us!" - Jacqueline Lorenz
