Dear Parents and Guardians of St. Francis of Assisi School,

Today Student Council began our day with a reflection on the events of 9/11 and invited the entire campus to spend a full minute of silence to honor those who lost their lives 18 years ago.  We ended our silence in prayer for those whose lives were forever changed by the events of that day. I will never forget how proud I was to be an American in the days that followed the tragedy of 9/11.  As a Country, we pulled together, united in grief and determination to show our strength and resiliency as one Nation under God. Even 18 years later, we still continue to heal from this act of terrorism, yet stand strong together.

One of the highlights of the 8th Grade East Coast Trip is our time spent at the 9/11 Memorial.  Standing on holy ground where so many lives were lost, our students each year show reverence as we spend moments in silence praying for those who names are written on the Memorial Pools, located in the footprints of the Twin Towers.  While our students were not alive to experience these events, what we hope they learn is that our country was built on the love, determination, and ultimate sacrifice of brave men and women.

In the spirit of honoring our Nation, I requested that a flag be flown at the Capitol Building on the day we visited with our Class of 2019.  This Friday, we will retire our current flag in a formal ceremony led by our St. Francis Boy Scouts. We would love for everyone to join us Friday at community prayers at 8:05 am.   What a great way to end our week acknowledging what our flag symbolizes to all Americans.

God Bless America~

SCHOOL NEWS
General Parent Meeting

Donation based childcare will be available through our 8th grade students for children preschool - 6th grade.
Important Letter From the Bishop
Bishop Vann has asked that everyone in the Diocese receive this letter.  He has called all of us to participate in a year of prayer.  As a school community, we are called to pray in everything we do.  Please know that our administration, faculty, and staff will partner with our families in supporting the Bishop's call to prayer.
Cybersafety Note for Parents
It has come to our attention that the software "Nitrotype" does not have the proper protocols and safeguards in place at this time to ensure the safety of all of our students.  We will no longer be using this software on campus and have blocked it through our filtering both on and offsite on all school devices.  Please partner with us in not allowing use of this software for our students.
Afterschool Pick Up - Important Safety Note
For families who have signed walking pass permission, you may notice that we have an administrative staff member assigned to the parking lot daily.  We became aware that students were left unattended last year beyond our school pickup times.  The same timelines that occur on campus apply to the Santa Clara de Asis parking lot.  Any student not picked up by 3:05 pm or 12:10 pm on half days, will be walked up to daycare by the staff member in the parking lot.  We cannot guarantee the safety of our students in an unsupervised parking lot, thus we have improved our procedure for this year.

Additionally, please remind students to be very careful as they walk through the parking lot, especially when walking with younger siblings.  We had several students weaving in and out of cars as they were backing up!  Please choose a designated area to pick up your student so they know right where to meet you. Otherwise, they should go directly to the sidewalk on the exterior of Santa Clara de Asis Church to wait for pickup.

Thank you in advance for your partnership in working on the safety of our students!
Bahamas Relief Effort
As you are aware, the Bahamas were hit by a devastating hurricane. As a community that has been blessed with so much, campus ministry will be collecting money to help the people of the Bahamas. Many are without food and water. It will take years to rebuild, but there are many immediate needs. Students can bring in $1.00 minimum donation and wear jeans and a free dress shirt on Monday, September 16th. All money collected will be donated to Catholic Relief Services to be used in the Bahamas. Please follow the dress code guidelines outlined in the handbook.
