Dear Parents and Guardians of St. Francis of Assisi School,

Recently my daughter shared an activity from a retreat she attended with the Catholic community at college.  They asked everyone to share their Joy, Junk, and Jesus from the day. At the end of each day when we are together, we have begun to practice this exercise.  We love to walk in the evenings and when the sun is setting, we call that our "pink moment," where as a family, we focus on gratitude for the day. For this newsletter message, I will use the format of the Joy, Junk and Jesus from last week.

Joy:  For anyone who attended the Fall Fundraiser last Friday evening, it was beyond evident that there is joy in this community.  Five women, who over a month ago, had no idea they would be planning this event, came together and knocked it out of the park! Mrs. Grand, Mrs. McCullough, Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Peña, and Mrs. McQueen worked tirelessly to bring a fresh event to life.  Their efforts yielded an increased sponsorship for the evening and they transformed our campus into a memorable night under the stars.

Junk:  Every day, I look forward to working carline in the morning and afternoon, where I get to greet students and their parents as they enter and leave the campus.  During this time, I often see the best and at times, the worst in human nature. While we are challenged with limited space in the parking lot, we have worked hard to create a smooth flow for traffic in and out of the lot.  The junk for the week is when we as a community either put the needs of ourselves in front of the greater good or lack the compassion for others when they honestly have made a mistake. My prayer for us is that as a community, we recognize that this junk could be eliminated. I encourage each one of us to think about our actions and decisions and how they may affect others at St. Francis.

Jesus:  Last Friday, we had the opportunity to have Jesus present in Adoration here on campus in our Learning Center.  Classes came in throughout the day to spend time in prayer and conversation with Him. Our campus minister led reflections for different grade levels that brought them to a deeper connection with our Lord.  Our Kindergarteners sang, our First Graders placed heartfelt petitions at His feet, and our upper graders recognized the importance of listening to what Jesus might have to say to them. The fruit of this is palpable in the difference in their coming and going from their time with Jesus.  One can see that Jesus wants to have a personal relationship with each one of our children. I invite you to spend some time in adoration at St. Martin de Porres Church, where it is offered 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. I believe Jesus has something personal and loving to say to each one of us if we take the time to listen.

I invite you to practice using Joy, Junk, and Jesus during car rides home or on the way to after school activities.  I would love to hear about your experiences with this practice.

Joyfully yours,

Jeannette Lambert
Safety Concerns
Please note that for safety reasons the Preschool/Pre-K gate will lock after morning drop off and not re-open until afternoon pick up.  The only entrance to the school after morning drop off will be through the front entrance of the school.

It is also important to not hold the gate for others.  It is a kind gesture but we need to keep the safety of the school in mind.  Each person entering the school must either enter the gate code or be given access through the front office.
