Dear Parents and Guardians of St. Francis of Assisi School,

James 1:19-27 reminds us today to be "doers of the word and not hearers only."  This morning I had the privilege of opening the day with prayer in our Early Childhood Program.  Parents and students gathered to read scripture, pray for their families, and recognize students for their FIAT virtue of Honesty.  Juniper B., Morgan H., and Chloe L. were honored as witnesses to the Gospel message through their example of telling the truth, even when it is difficult.  Mrs. Fry and the amazing team in Early Childhood, really work together to mentor and foster every student, that they might realize that they are loved and called to love one another.

Can you believe that next week is Ash Wednesday?  It feels like yesterday that we were taking down the Christmas Lights and putting away the manger.  Through our liturgical calendar, we are invited into a new Season, where we focus on being "doers" and disciples in action.  Today's reading from James reminds us that we should be "quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger." Our fourth grade conflict managers are working daily to provide conflict resolution tools for our lower grade students.  They are trained volunteers who bring their unique gifts to help students navigate resolution to verbal conflicts, disagreement on game rules, and misunderstandings daily at the lunch tables. Through listening to one another, patiently hearing the perspective of the other person, our students are able to slow down and work together.  What a world this would be if we all could follow their example! 

Afterschool, I stopped by daycare to see the great work happening with our students who get to spend extra hours with our staff.  I was amazed to see the tasty treats and warm welcome our students receive as they decompress from their school day and transition to homework and recreation.  When I think of servant leaders, I only have to look as far as our daycare staff. Their dedication is so very evident in the planning of activities, creativity in daily refreshments, and the genuine love they show for your children, entrusted into their care.  With a week until Ash Wednesday, join me in praying about what God is calling us to embrace, release, or sacrifice. What will help each one of us grow closer in faith with God? I will pray for you and ask that you pray for the faculty, staff, and administration at St. Francis, that together we will love and serve your children well.

Spring Conferences
This year we added a day for Spring Conferences.  This is an OPTIONAL day for parents to meet with their children's teachers should they feel the need for additional dialogue and planning for their student's success.  We have been focusing as a school community on building a growth mindset for all of our students.  This takes strong collaboration between school and home, keeping the lines of communication active and engaged. 

Sign-ups are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Any additional families who want to conference with teachers and cannot be accommodated on this conference day can schedule them according to your teacher's availability. Regular daycare (Daycare Room) will be available to those currently enrolled. DC Kidsitting is available for drop-in at the Seamus Glynn Center should you need help with your children for just the conference time. Donations are highly encouraged for our East Coast Study Trip.
Service Hours Reminder!
March 31st is quickly approaching and that is the last day for you to enter service hours into FACTS.  Each family is required to complete 20 hours of service between April 1 and March 31.  You can check your current service hours at any time on FACTS.

Any hours that are not fulfilled will be billed to your FACTS account in April at the rate of $15. per hour.

Cyber Safety

Please join our SFA Community as we welcome Clayton Cranford, Cyber Safety Cop, to give an informative talk to parents on "Parenting in the Digital World".  This engaging and eye-opening presentation about what is really going on in our children's digital world will take place on Tuesday, February 25th from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm in the Seamus Glynn Center.

Academic Decathlon
Dear 2020 Academic Decathlon Families and Supporters:

The Academic Decathlon is Saturday, March 7th at Santa Margarita Catholic High School.

All 6th, 7th and 8th students and their families are invited to attend to support our team. Many teachers will be offering extra credit and other incentives if students attend the Decathlon from 11:45-2:00pm. If they would like to join us for lunch, then the cost is also $10.00 per person and they must also sign up for lunch prior to the event.

This year lunch will be catered by Campitelli Cookies in Anaheim Hills. All sandwiches will be on a French Roll with lettuce and tomato. Mayonnaise and mustard will be on the side. Chips and a cookie are included with the lunch. You can choose from ham, roast beef, tuna, and turkey sandwiches. For all those planning on buying lunch, please complete the form and return it the school office on or before February 21st along with payment. Class Contest & Donations: 
We are accepting donations for silent auction baskets!
We are looking for items such as: Sporting Event Tickets, Electronics, Gift Cards, Wine, Champagne, or other liquor, Time Share or Vacation Rental, Theater Tickets, Other unused household items. 

All items donated will be counted toward the Class Contest. The class with the most items donated can choose a pizza or ice cream party! Please complete the donor form with any/all items and bring to the office. Be sure to add your child's class to the donor form to receive credit!

1st Grade Service Project

Volunteers Needed!
The Tuition Assistance Event Co-Chairs are looking for 2-3 volunteers to shadow them this year during the planning of the Father/Daughter and Mother/Son events. This would be in hopes that the volunteers would then take over as Co-Chairs for next years event. This is a great way to get involved, meet new people and get your volunteer hours for the year.

Wednesday lunches throughout the school year are hosted by our 7th and 8th grade students fundraising for their East Coast Study  Trip.  The DC Dining program offers a variety of meal options from a broad spectrum of local restaurants.

Please be sure to turn the form and payment into the office by Monday of the week you are ordering a meal. DC Dining next Wednesday, February 26th we will be serving Costco Pizza. Next week will be the last DC Dining for the 2nd Trimester.  Below is the new order form for Trimester 3.
