Greetings!
On Saturday, December 18, we will hold the second annual Starry Night in Library Park. There will be music from the Patten Free Singers at 4:30, a wishing tree, and, the highlight of the evening; a luminary walk around Library Park.
The luminary walk was first offered last year as a COVID-friendly seasonal activity. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the season with the whole community while remaining socially distant, and we are thrilled to be able to offer it again this year.
Starry Night runs from 4-8 p.m. Baked goods will be provided by the Friends of Patten Free Library, and there will be hot chocolate provided by Dunkin Donuts and hot cider. Best of all, the forecast calls for snow!
It's sure to be a magical evening and I hope to see you there.

Gia's Shout Out: Children's Titles
Boys Dance by John Robert Allman
This week we've been listening to the music of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker Ballet to get into the holiday spirit, and watching the beautiful ballet dancing. Zeke loves dancing and singing to holiday music so I thought we'd read more about male dancers. We see them represented less often than ballerinas; and still have so much to offer to the stage!

Changes are in the works for Patten’s patron access to the online reading and logging platform Beanstack. We have made the difficult, yet exciting, decision to discontinue Patten’s private Beanstack site in favor of participating in a Maine statewide Beanstack site.
What does this mean for you? If you are a current user of Patten’s Beanstack site, please be aware that access to the site and to your account will be shut off on January 1st. Make your final visits and say your goodbyes before then at patten.beanstack.org.
Whether you are a veteran of Beanstack or new to the platform, visit maine.beanstack.org to start a brand new account on the Maine community site. Get started now by pre-registering for the state’s first challenge for all ages: Winter Reading 2022: Read for a Better World, running from January 1 to 31.
