April 1-30 in Library Park
Take a walk in Library Park all April long and celebrate National Poetry Month. Throughout the month of April, you will find the work of local, national, and international poets featured in our pop-up poetry installation. Discover new and old favorites for all ages in the nooks and crannies of the park, including the winners of our 2022 Poetry Contest. With support from Mid Coast Hospital and Now You’re Cooking.
A Flick of Sunshine and the Remarkable Adventures of a “Bath Boy”
Saturday, May 7 at 2 p.m.
Join local author Fredric B. Hill for a lively discussion of local history and a reading from his latest book A Flick of Sunshine. Hill’s talk will focus mainly on the story of a shipwreck, survival in the latter days of the great three- and four-masted sailing ships, and Bath’s prominence in shipbuilding in the mid and later 19th century.

“The Living New Deal” researcher Andrew Laverdiere gives a glimpse into the vast scope of FDR’s legacy in the context of what was going on in the state of Maine at the time and a discussion about the economic philosophy that made his efforts successful both nationally and internationally. Writing Workshop

6:00 p.m. on Zoom
Local short fiction authors Shannon L. Bowring and Hannah Lackoff lead this hour long generative writing workshop. Through a mix of writing prompts, (optional) sharing and group discussion, participants will leave with lots of new ideas. This workshop will be held via Zoom and requires registration. Geared towards adults and short fiction but open to any genres and interested teens grades 7 and up. Click here to register.

Babysitter Training Course
Tuesday, May 24: 4-7 p.m.

Tuesday, June 7: 4-7 p.m.
This course will provide youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to give care safely and responsibly to children and infants. Open to ages 11 to 15. This is an eight-hour course split up over three sessions. Participants must attend all three sessions. Sign-ups begin May 2 and space is limited.

Maine Big Night: Amphibian Migration Monitoring

May is membership month for Friends of Patten Free Library. Membership dues help us provide financial support for PFL. Over the past 20 years, we have been able to contribute over $562,000 to the Library.
We are pleased to announce a new benefit to becoming a Friend. Your Friends membership will now entitle you to a free book (of equal or lesser value) with every two book purchases at the library bookstore. If there is someone special in your life who regularly shops at the library bookstore, perhaps you would like to give them a gift membership.
Membership forms are available on the Friends Bulletin Board in the front hall of the Library and in the library bookstore.
