Dear Parishioners,
Last Tuesday we celebrated the Feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Feast of which Archangel Gabriel announced to the Blessed Virgin the good, that is, the blessed news that deliverance and salvation will come to the whole world through Her. This historic event is painted on icons and in every Orthodox Church occupies a central place on the iconostasis at the Royal Doors, as is the case in our church (
see album below
).
The Royal doors in our church are specially decorated with carved scenes depicting Christ's life and miracles. Some of these events are about to be celebrated these days: the Entry of Christ into Jerusalem, the Crucifixion, and the Resurrection. Do you know how long it took the artist to finish the carvings in these 24 scenes? It took him ten years! He started working on them in 2009 when the rest of the iconostasis was installed and only last year was completed. Can you imagine how much
patience
the artist had while doing these challenging scenes in a small space? How much love is invested for each scene to evoke the Gospel event (see inscription above the scene for biblical reference)?! Very often I was on the verge of patience, wondering when it would be over. In the end, we received beautiful Royal doors that adorn the iconostasis and the entire church, as George Bilak himself would say: "One in the world." The wait paid off.
I remind myself and you too, my dear ones, because even in these days,
we all practice patience
. We are required to limit our movements, to keep our distance, not to attend community gatherings, including those in the church, etc. all to prevent the spread of the coronavirus infection. This too will pass soon, God willing. Let us be patient. Our people say "one who is patient is saved." I'm sorry that you will not be able to physically attend the services, including Easter. Pray to God at your homes with your household. The church will continue to be open for individual visits. May God and Saint Sava protect you from all temptations and especially from the coronavirus.

У прошли уторак прослависмо Празник Благовести Пресвете Богородице, Празник када је Архангел Гаврило најавио Пресветој Богородици добру, тј.благу вест да ће кроз њу доћи избављење и спасење целом свету. Тај историјски догађај слика се на иконама и у свакој Православној цркви заузима централно место на иконостасу на Царским дверима (вратима), као што је случај и у нашој цркви (
погледајте албум доле
).
Царске двери у нашем храму су посебно украшене са дуборезним сценама које описују Христов живот и чуда. Неке од тих догађаја ћемо управо обележити и прославити ових дана: Улазак Христов у Јерусалим, Распеће и Васкрсење. Да ли знате колико времена је узело уметнику да заврши дуборез на ових 24 сцена? Пуних десет година! Почео је на њима да ради 2009., када је постављен остатак иконостаса, и тек прошле 2019. је комплетиран. Можете ли замислити колико је
стрпљења
имао уметник док је радио ове захтевне сцене на малом простору?! Колико је љубави уложено да свака сцена дочара догађај из Јеванђеља (изнад сцене погледајте место у Библији где је догађај описан). Врло често сам и ја био на ивици
стрпљења
чудећи се и питајући се када ће већ једном бити готово. На крају смо добили предивне царске двери које украшавају иконостос и цео храм, како би сам Ђорђе Билак рекао: “Један на свијет.” Чекање се исплатило.
Подсећам себе а и вас, драги моји, јер и у ове дане сви се вежбамо у стрпљењу. Од нас се тражи да ограничимо своје кретање, да се држимо на одстојању, да не долазимо на заједничка окупљања, укључујући она у цркви, итд., а све у циљу да се спречи ширење заразе корона вируса. Проћи ће и ово, ако да Бог, ускоро. Стрпимо се. Наш народ каже
“стрпљен спашен
” и “ко се чува и Бог га чува”. Жао ми је да нећете моћи присуствовати физички на богослужењима укључујући и на Васкрс. Помолите се Богу код ваших домова са вашим укућанима. Црква ће и даље бити отворена за појединачне посете. Нека вас Бог и Свети Сава чувају од свих искушења а нарочито од корона вируса.

Dear Parishioners,
In light of the severity of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, and the accompanying struggle which many individuals and families are going to face, the St. Sava Cathedral board on behalf of the entire parish will be offering limited aid to individuals and families in need.
If you are under significant financial stresses and need assistance purchasing food and other household essentials, there are many resources you can take advantage of to help ease the burden. While state and federal resources will be the most impactful, they aren't enough to cover everything for everyone. If you need additional aid, please reach out and we'll try to accommodate you. We understand that many individuals and families will be facing enormous difficulties in the coming weeks and months.
Below is a list of government resources.
While we are offering help to anyone who needs it, please keep in mind that our ability to provide aid is limited. We ask that you use your judgment to determine whether your need is immediate. If so, please reach out. If you need help, contact either of us.

As has become abundantly obvious, our ability to come to church and participate together in Liturgies and Services has been severely restricted by the current state of affairs. As a result, weekly donations and collections have ceased - donations which we depend on to maintain our cathedral and grounds and pay our regular bills. I humbly ask you to go to

and contribute a portion of what you'd regularly give each Sunday.
We are also aware of the current situation, that some will lose their jobs or that household income will be reduced.
If you are in this situation, feel free to cut your contribution to the church you promised earlier through the Stewardship, or quit completely until your financial situation improves.

Greetings to all!
The Palm Sunday is approaching. While we are at home, together with our families, you can use these materials together with your children. As you all know this coming Sunday is at the same time joyful and sad. Christ is entering into Jerusalem, children are greeting Him but in next few days He will be in pain and suffering.
You can talk to your children about the event and discuss the Christ's coming Resurrection.

А Исус пре пасхе на шест дана дође у Витанију где беше Лазар што умре, кога подиже из мртвих. Онде Му, пак, зготовише вечеру, и Марта служаше, а и Лазар сеђаше с њим за трпезом; А Марија узевши литру правог нардовог многоценог мира помаза ноге Исусове, и отре косом својом ноге Његове; а кућа се напуни мириса од мира. Онда рече један од ученика Његових, Јуда Симонов Искариотски, који Га после издаде: Зашто се ово миро не продаде за триста гроша и не даде сиромасима? А ово не рече што се стараше за сиромахе, него што беше лупеж, и имаше ковчежић, и ношаше што се меташе у њ. А Исус рече: Не дирајте у њу; она је то дохранила за дан мог погреба; Јер сиромахе свагда имате са собом, а мене немате свагда. Разуме, пак, многи народ из Јудеје да је онде и дођоше не само Исуса ради него и да виде Лазара ког подиже из мртвих. А главари свештенички договорише се да и Лазара убију; Јер многи њега ради иђаху из Јудеје и вероваху Исуса. А сутрадан, многи од народа који беше дошао на празник, чувши да Исус иде у Јерусалим. Узеше гране од финика и изиђоше Му на сусрет, и викаху говорећи: Осана! Благословен који иде у име Господње, цар Израиљев. А Исус нашавши магаре уседе на њ, као што је писано: Не бој се кћери Сионова, ево цар твој иде седећи на магарету. Али ово ученици Његови не разумеше пре: него кад се прослави Исус онда се опоменуше да ово беше за Њега писано, и ово Му учинише. А народ сведочаше који беше пре с Њим кад Лазара изазва из гроба и подиже га из мртвих. Зато Га и срете народ, јер чуше да Он учини ово чудо.

Palm Sunday
Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead. There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him. Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil. But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said, Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor? This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it. But Jesus said, “Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.” Now a great many of the Jews knew that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead. But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also, because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus. The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’ The King of Israel!” Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt.” His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him. Therefore the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his tomb and raised him from the dead, bore witness. For this reason the people also met Him, because they heard that He had done this sign.
