1. THE VENERABLE SIMEON [MIROTOCIVI], FROM WHOSE RELICS FLOWED MYRRH - CHRISM
Stefan Nemanja [Nehemiah], the great ruler [Great Zupan] of the Serbian people, the consolidator of Serbian lands, creator of the independent Serbian state, defender of Orthodoxy and exterminator of heresy. At first, he was baptized in the Latin Church but later left this Church and embraced the Orthodox Church. In the beginning, he was dependent on the Greeks with regard to the State, but later he freed himself from this dependence and became completely autonomous. When Stefan consolidated the State and the Orthodox Faith in the State, then, following the example of his son Sava, received the monastic tonsure in Studenica Monastery in the year 1195 A.D., and received the name Simeon. His wife Anna withdrew to a convent, embraced the monastic tonsure and received the name Anastasia. After two years as a monk in Studenica, Simeon traveled to Athos, the Holy Mountain. There he took up residence in the Monastery Vatopedi together with his son Sava. Father and son spend their days and nights in prayer. There, they built six chapels dedicated to: the Savior, The Unmercenary Saints, St. George, St. Theodore, The Forerunner and St. Nicholas. They purchased the ruins of Hilendar and erected a glorious monastery in which Simeon lived only eight months and then died. When Simeon was on his deathbed, Sava, according to his father's wishes, placed him on a simple mat. With eyes directed toward the icon of the Mother of God and the Savior, the blessed elder spoke these last words: "Let everything that has breath praise the Lord." (Psalm 150:6), and took up habitation with the Lord on February 13, 1200 A.D.
2. THE VENERABLE MARTINIAN
The glorious and most wonderful life of Martinian is worthwhile to read in its entirety. What did he not endure just to fulfill the commandments of the Lord! At age eighteen, Martinian retreated to a mountain in Cappadocia called "The Place of the Ark" where he lived for twenty-five years in fasting, vigils, prayer and struggling with many temptations. When a woman came to tempt him and, he perceiving that he will succumb to sin with her, Martinian leaped into the fire barefooted and remained in the fire until the pain brought tears to his eyes and subdued any lust within himself. When another temptation erupted, Martinian fled to an isolated rock in the sea and there he lived. During a shipwreck a young woman swam to this rock. Martinian jumped into the sea to avoid any further temptation, but a dolphin rescued him on its back and by God's Providence brought him ashore. Martinian then decided never to make any place his permanent home but to continually travel. In two years, Martinian passed through one hundred and sixty-four towns correcting and counseling people. He finally reached Athens where he died in the year 422 A.D.
3. THE FEMALE SAINTS ZOE AND PHOTINA
At first Zoe was a prostitute and a temptress of St. Martinian. When she saw this ascetic leap into the fire in order to subdue in himself all lust, she bitterly repented, retreated to a convent in Bethlehem where, as an ascetic and recluse, heroically lived a life of mortification. Repenting of all her sins, she received from God the gift of working miracles. By the winds of the sea St. Photina was cast on the island where St. Martinian had isolated himself. Martinian immediately fled the island and Photina remained there in fasting and prayer where she died.

SAINT ZOE
The monk in the fire, Zoe looked at with horror
How he burns without complaint, fear and sighing!
With horror and with shame, Zoe repented:
Just to save his soul, O what this man does!
Bowed and begged forgiveness, she began to weep,
To resist evil, asked, what to do,
To save the soul, to resist evil in the flesh.
The man of God, from joy, he too began to weep.
To Bethlehem, to the blessed Paula he sent her:
Depart woman, save yourself; go and do not perish,
Blessed Paula, all else will tell you.
Over the turquoise sea, completely humbled, Zoe departed,
Like a little sister, Paula received and instructed her.
Zoe cries, Zoe listens; endures and remains silent.
So twelve summers passed; twelve years,
As an ascetic, Sister Zoe became known.
Bathes her face with tears and before her death asks God,
Has God forgiven her? Did He or did He not?
At that moment, before the door of Zoe, a blind woman was led
That she may see; You pray, pray, pray!
In tears, Zoe prayed and the woman saw;
Zoe recognized, thus recognized that she is forgiven
Through sinners, when they repent, God is glorified,
Then, they on earth, with miracles shine like the stars.
Reflection
The great Stefan Nemanja, whose authorative words everyone unconditionally heeded to and at whom people and emperors trembled, became a monk and served the monks of the Holy Mountain [Athos] as an ideal example of meekness, humility, goodness and piety. Even his death was the death of a truly godly-man and spiritual director. He became bedridden on February 7. He summoned St. Sava, placed his hands on him and blessed him saying: "My beloved child, the light of my eyes, comfort and protector in my old age! Behold the time of our separation has arrived. Behold the Lord is releasing me in peace. But you, my child, do not mourn because of our separation. For parting is the common cup of all and everyone; here we part from one another but we will meet there where there is no separation." On February 12, St. Simeon asked Sava to clothe him in a burial cassock, to spread a mat on the ground, lay him there and place a stone under his head. He then summoned all the monks and asked their forgiveness. At dawn, on February 13, while the monks were chanting the Office of Matins in church and the voices were reaching the cell of the dying one, St. Simeon, once more his face radiated and he gave up his soul to his God.
Contemplation
To contemplate the Lord Jesus as the Lamb of God:
1. As a Lamb born in the dwelling place of lambs;
2. As a Lamb persecuted by men of lupine temper such as Herod and others;
3. As the Sacrificial Lamb Who patiently endured pain and death;
4. As the Victorious Lamb of God on the Heavenly Throne.
Homily
About love above every other love
" Whoever loves father ormother more than Me is not worthy of Me" (St. Matthew 10:37).
The entire Gospel teaches that we should leave the lesser for the sake of the greater; the transient for the intransient; the worst for the sake of the best; the less valuable for the sake of the more valuable. If the Good News [Gospel] would not promise greater value, who would leave the lesser? If the Gospel would not reveal the glow of the precious goods, who would leave the less valuable goods? Who would leave honey and milk if he did not find something sweeter? Who would leave father and mother if he did not find someone closer in kinship? Who would leave children and friends if he did not recognize someone more dear? Who would willingly give up his life to suffering and death if he did not perceive immortal life? The Lord Christ is sweeter than honey and milk; He is a closer kin to us than our father and mother; more dear to us than our own children and friends; more precious than all visible treasures; more costly than this life for He gives life eternal. Everything in the world compared to Him [Christ] is inferior, trivial, bitter, weak, less valuable and transitory. Whoever receives Him [Christ] it is easier for him to leave everything; everything, because he has received the best and Him Who is the very best.
O Lord Jesus, the Treasury of all eternal riches, help us to unbind ourselves from everything and to cling to You, our Good and our Life.

1. Преподобни Симеон Мироточиви – Стефан Немања. Велики владалац српског народа, ујединитељ српских земаља, творац независне српске државе, бранитељ Православља, истребитељ јереси. Најпре био крштен у латинској цркви, но доцније ослободи се од те цркве и постане члан цркве православне. Најпре зависио у државном погледу од Грка, но доцније ослободио се те зависности и постао потпуно самосталан. Када је утврдио државу, и веру православну у држави, тада, по примеру свога сина Саве, прими монашки чин у манастиру Студеници 1195. године и добије име Симеон. Жена његова Ана такође прими монашки чин, добије име Анастасија и повуче се у женски манастир. После две године иночества у Студеници Симеон оде у Свету Гору. Ту се настани најпре у манастиру Ватопеду, заједно са Савом. Отац и син проводили су дане и ноћи у молитви. Ту су саградили шест параклиса: Спаситељу, Бесребреницима, светом Георгију, светом Теодору, Претечи и светом Николају. Купе рушевине Хиландара и саграде диван манастир, у коме Симеон поживи само осам месеци па сконча. Кад је био на издисају, Сава га, по његовој жељи, положи на просту рогозину. Са очима управљеним у икону Богоматере и Спаситеља блажени старац изусти ове речи: „Всјакоје диханије да хвалит Господа!“ И пресели се ка Господу 13. фебруара 1200. године.
2. Преподобни Мартинијан. Дивно је и предивно житије овога светитеља, и вреди га прочитати у целини. Шта он све није претрпео само да испуни заповести Господње! У осамнаестој години удаљио се у планину, звану Ковчежна, у Кападокији, и ту провео двадесет пет година у посту, бдењу, молитви, и борби са многим искушењима. Кад је једна жена дошла да га куша, и он види да ће пасти у грех с њом, скочи бос у огањ и постоји у огњу док му бол не нагна сузе на очи и не убије у њему сваку пожуду. Кад су настала друга искушења, он побегне на неку усамљену стену у мору, и ту је живео. Но кад, при неком бродолому, и на ту стену исплива нека жена, он скочи у море да се удави, али делфин га дочека на леђа и изнесе на обалу, по Божјем Промислу. Тада се реши да се више нигде не настањује стално, него непрестано да путује. И тако за две године прође 164 града, исправљајући и саветујући људе. Најзад стигне у Атину где и сконча 422. године.
3. Света Зоа и Фотонија. Зоа беше најпре развратница и кушатељка светога Мартинијана, па када виде овога испосника да скочи у огањ, да би убио у себи сваку пожуду, она се горко покаја, оде у један манастир у Витлејему где се као испосница и затворница јуначки подвизавала. Искајавши све грехе своје, она доби од Бога дар чудотворства. Свету Фотинију бура морска избаци на острво, на коме се свети Мартинијан беше усамио. Мартинијан се одмах удаљи с острва, а Фотинија сконча ту у посту и молитви.
Сa ужасом Зоа виде у огњу монаха
Како гори без жаљења, страха и уздаха!
Са ужасом и са стидом Зоа покаја се:
– O шта овај човек чини тек душу да спасе!
Заплака се, поклони се, опроштај замоли,
И упита шта да ради те злу да одоли,
Да одоли злу и телу, и да душу спасе.
Од радости човек Божји – и он заплака се.
Па je шаље у Витлејем блаженој Павлини:
– Иди жено, спасавај се, иди не погини,
Све остало казаће ти блажена Павлина.
Сва скрушена оде Зоа преко мора сиња.
Павлина је као сестру прими и упути.
Зоа плаче, Зоа слуша, и трпи и ћути.
Дванаест лета тако прошло, дванаест годиница,
Прочула се сестра Зоа као испосница.
A пред смрт Бога пита, сузама се мије,
Да ли joj је Бог простио? је ли или није?
У том жену слепу воде. па пред врата Зои:
– Да прогледа помоли се! Помоли, помоли!
Помоли се плачем Зоа, и прогледа жена;
Позна Зоа, тако позна, да je опроштена.
Кроз грешнике Бог се слави, када се покају,
Тад на земљи чудесима ко звезде сијају.
Расуђивање
Велики Стефан Немања, чију владарску реч свак је безусловно слушао, и од кога су стрепели народи и цареви, поставши монахом, служио је монасима светогорским узоритим примером кротости, смерности, доброте и молитвености. И смрт његова била је смрт једног истинског Божјег човека и духовника. Пао је у постељу 7. фебруара. Он призва Саву, положи руке своје на њ и благослови га говорећи: „Чедо моје возљубљено, светлости очију мојих, утехо и чувару старости моје! ево приспе време нашег растанка; ево Господ ме отпушта с миром. Но ти се не жалости, чедо, због растанка. То је општа чаша свију и свакога; овде се ми растајемо, али састаћемо се тамо где више нема растанка.“ 12. фебруара св. Симеон нареди Сави да га обуче у самртничку мантију, да му простре рогозу на земљу, метне камен под главу и тако положи га. Тада призове све монахе и с њима се опрости. На освитку 13. фебруара, када су монаси појали јутарње правило у цркви, и гласови њихови допираху до ћелије самртникове, св. Симеону се још једном засветли лице, и он предаде душу своју Богу.
Созерцање
Да созерцавам Господа Исуса као јагње Божје и то:
1. као јагње рођено у стану јагањаца,
2. као јагње гоњено од људи вучје ћуди, као, Ирода и др.
3. као жртвено јагње које је трпељиво поднело муке и смрт,
4. као победоносно јагње Божје на престолу небеском.
Беседа
о љубави изнад сваке љубави
Који љуби оца или матер више него мене, није мене достојан. (Мат. 10, 37)
Цело Јеванђеље учи да треба оставити мање ради већег, пролазно ради непролазног, горе ради бољег, јевтиније ради драгоценијег. Кад не би Јеванђеље обећавало веће вредности, ко би онда оставио мање? Кад не би откривало сјај драгоценијих блага, ко би напустио блага јевтинија? Ко би оставио мед и млеко, ако није нашао нешто слађе? Ко би оставио оца и мајку, ако није нашао неког сроднијег? Ко би напустио децу и пријатеље, ако није познао неког милијег? Ко би драговољно предао овај живот мучењу и смрти, ако није назрео живот бесмртни? Господ Христос је слађи од меда и млека; ближи нам сродник од нашег оца и мајке; милији од деце и пријатеља; драгоценији од свих блага видљивих, скупљи од овог живота, јер дарује живот бесмртни. Све је у свету горе од Њега, и мање и горче, и слабије, и јевтиније и пролазније од Њега. Ко Њега прими, томе је лако све оставити, све, зато што је примио најбоље и најбољег.
О Господе Исусе, ризницо свих блага непролазних, помози нам одрешити се од свега и приљубити се Теби, животе наш и добро наше. Теби слава и хвала вавек. Амин.

Sunday of the Prodigal Son
Then He said: “A certain man had two sons. And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.’ So he divided to them his livelihood. And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything. But when he came to himself, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants.”’ And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ But the father said to his servants, ‘Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be merry. Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. So he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and because he has received him safe and sound, your father has killed the fatted calf.’ But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him. So he answered and said to his father, ‘Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends. But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.’ And he said to him, ‘Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours. It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.’

И рече: Један човек имаше два сина, И рече млађи од њих оцу: Оче! Дај ми део имања што припада мени. И отац им подели имање. И потом до неколико дана покупи млађи син све своје, и отиде у далеку земљу; и онамо просу имање своје живећи беспутно. А кад потроши све, постаде велика глад у оној земљи, и он се нађе у невољи. И отишавши приби се код једног човека у оној земљи; и он га посла у поље своје да чува свиње. И жељаше напунити трбух свој рошчићима које свиње јеђаху, и нико му их не даваше. А кад дође к себи, рече: Колико најамника у оца мог имају хлеба и сувише, а ја умирем од глади! Устаћу и идем оцу свом, па ћу му рећи: Оче! Сагреших Небу и теби, И већ нисам достојан назвати се син твој: прими ме као једног од својих најамника. И уставши отиде оцу свом. А кад је још подалеко био, угледа га отац његов, и сажали му се, и потрчавши загрли га и целива га. А син му рече: Оче, сагреших Небу и теби, и већ нисам достојан назвати се син твој. А отац рече слугама својим: Изнесите најлепшу хаљину и обуците га, и подајте му прстен на руку и обућу на ноге. И доведите теле угојено те закољите, да једемо и да се веселимо. Јер овај мој син беше мртав, и оживе; и изгубљен беше, и нађе се. И стадоше се веселити. А син његов старији беше у пољу, и долазећи кад се приближи кући чу певање и подвикивање. И дозвавши једног од слугу запита: Шта је то? А он му рече: Брат твој дође; и отац твој закла теле угојено, што га је здравог видео. А он се расрди и не хтеде да уђе. Тада изиђе отац његов и мољаше га. А он одговарајући рече оцу: Ето те служим толико година, и никад не преступих твоје заповести, па мени никад ниси дао јаре да бих се провеселио са својим друштвом; А кад дође тај твој син који ти је имање просуо с курвама, заклао си му теле угојено. А он му рече: Сине! Ти си свагда са мном, и све је моје твоје. Требало се развеселити и обрадовати, јер овај брат твој мртав беше, и оживе; и изгубљен беше, и нађе се.
