"Christ on the Move in the Middle East Today
and among Muslims Worldwide"

The events of September 11, 2001 rocked the Muslim world as much as it did the Christian or Western world. In recent years, Muslims have become either more radical, moderate or have chosen to leave Islam and practice another religion or no religion at all. The Arab Spring is just one example of Muslims and Arabs crying for more freedom and independence. Currently, there is unprecedented growth of the Church in Egypt and Iran. For the past 19 years, Dan McNerney has led church groups to the Middle East, supporting indigenous Christian communities in many of the Arab and Farsi speaking countries. He has also become actively involved in creating peaceful, bridge-building relationships between churches and mosques throughout the Chicago area and elsewhere in our country.
Join fellow parishioners on Thur., Oct. 10 for supper at 5:30PM in the McClain Room followed by Dan's talk from 6:15-7:15PM. Complementary nursery care is provided.

Our Keynote speaker will be the Bishop of Chicago, the Right Reverend Jeffrey Lee.  With his retirement next August, this will be his last keynote address for this event as Bishop.
Invite, Welcome, Connect Seminar
Saturday, October 26 from 9AM-3PM
Join us on Saturday, October 26 from 9-3 at the Church on the Hill to learn more about Invite, Welcome, Connect. This program was developed to help Episcopal Churches utilize tools to help Christ Church grow numerically and spiritually. Our facilitator, the Rev. Mary McGregor from Houston, will spend the day showing us how to make Christ Church more "sticky" for people who visit us. Lunch will be provided as will childcare if requested.
Mary spent her ministry in the Diocese of Texas, the last dozen years on the Bishop's staff. Since then, she has traveled the country meeting with Episcopal Churches to help them develop the skills to be more hospitable to visitors by training existing members in the areas of invitation, welcome, and connection. We had ten people attend this seminar at the Cathedral in June and afterwards, everyone agreed we should bring Mary here to introduce this to our parishioners.
You can register for the day, which includes lunch, here.

Join us as we welcome back our dear friend Bishop Joseph Atem of our Companion Diocese of Renk, South Sudan.

We'll gather at the Rectory for dinner featuring cuisine from South Sudan and hear news of Renk and our companion parish in Paloch.
Bishop Joseph will also tell us about an exciting new partnership with Five Talents, which has developed programs in Renk that focus on literacy, economic empowerment, and trauma healing for women and youth affected by war, all critical elements to a lasting peace.

6:00PM - Gather at the Rectory, 458 Maple Street
6:20PM - Prayer
6:30PM - Dinner featuring cuisine from South Sudan
7:15PM - Presentation by Bishop Joseph with time for questions

Please RSVP to Lisa Kerpan at lskerpan@kerpan.com by October 11.  Thank you!

All Saints Sunday We Read the Names of the Faithfully Departed
We pray for all that have died, that they may have a place in God's eternal kingdom.  Please list the names of those you wish prayed for on November 3.

At the 8:00AM service we will read the names of those who have been buried at Christ Church since All Saints Day 2018.
At the 9:30AM service we will read the entire necrology (fancy name for this list) as a group. Each parishioner will be given a list which we will read at the same time. We call it "Pentecost" style.
At the 5:30PM Evensong we will read each name individually. This service is followed by a parish-wide dinner.

An Evening with C.S. Lewis

C.S. Lewis, a Christian writer from the 1940's-60's, is a widely appreciated author on the subject of Christianity.  Though many of his books are over 70 years old, most are still in print.  Fifteen of us are studying his
Screwtape Letters Fridays at Holy Caffeine from 8:30-9:30AM in the Lea Room.
David Payne portrays Lewis and captures the essence of the man and his path from atheism to Christianity in a fascinating show spanning the adult years of his life and featuring his friendship with J.R.R. Tolkien.
A group of Christ Church parishioners is planning to attend the showing on Saturday, November 2 at 8PM at the Broadway Theatre downtown.  Come join us!!  Get your tickets on your own at broadwayinchicago.com and email christopher@christchurchwinnetka.org if you would like to get together for dinner as a group beforehand.

Opportunities to Serve
A Just Harvest - Saturday, October 26
We Need Cooks, Servers, & Shoppers
DID YOU KNOW that our Parish serves approximately 150-175 hungry patrons each month at A Just Harvest Community Kitchen in Rogers Park.  We'd love to have you join this ongoing ministry.
Questions? Contact Jenny Smith or Suzie Peregrine for more information and/or to volunteer.
Most volunteers leave the kitchen with the sense that they have personally gained more than they have given. Come see for yourself.
