FROM CHRISSY KARLIAK
On Oct. 7 & 8 five high school choir students, Aaron D., Emily F., Alexandria K., Colin M. & Trey S., represented Fairview in the Kent State All Star Choir.  They spent 2 days on campus rehearsing with Kent State Choral Music faculty and presented a concert at the conclusion of the second day. The students also participated in a round table discussion with current Kent students to discuss how they can be involved in choral music as either a Music major, minor or just for fun! A highlight of the trip was meeting recent FHS '18 grad, Nick Miller for dinner!

FROM DAVE LATKOVIC
For Fairview Football, Jack P. broke the all-time rushing record for a football player at Fairview High School. He has rushed for over 2,400 yards. The old record was 2,395 held by Hans Larsen.

FROM GRANT GRAVES
Team Sport Leadership and Culture Community is continuing to grow rapidly! We are currently exploring teamwork and strategy through our newly minted Paper Football League! Students have built their own goal posts, collaborated on team names, determined game strategy, and practiced teamwork in some very intense matchups. Looking forward to the next round of games on Thursday!

FROM MEGHANN PETERS
Key Club members have received rave reviews from their volunteer services. In particular, Krisa M.i, Matt P., Miette J. received extra kudos.

FROM COLLEEN NAGY
Several students in our kindness community (which meets on Thursdays during mentoring) have taken it upon themselves to create an Instagram account for the group. On this account they will be posting weekly kindness challenges. Their goal is to make our school community a more welcoming place!

2018 Renewal Levy Information

Voters in Fairview Park will see Issue 5, a RENEWAL, on the ballot for the Fairview Park City School District. Note that there is no "emergency." An Emergency levy is property tax that serves as a limited operating levy proposed for a specific dollar amount. Emergency levies may be renewed for the dollar amount originally requested. This particular emergency levy has been renewed twice (in 2008 and 2012) by voters since it was originally approved in 2003, and maintains $2.69 million of existing funding.

Start Talking Parent Resources
Family and Community Engagement Corner
FROM CARRIE SULLIVAN
Family and Community Engagement Coordinator

I hope the end of the 1st quarter was successful for all our FPCS families! Please email me a question you have regarding things going on at school, parenting, then I will share the answer next week! I am sure other parents may have the same question and would love to see the answer. Please email me at csullivan@fairview.k12.oh.us

I thought I'd just take a minute to have everyone assess how 1st quarter went.

*Is all well with grades, emotionally happy, etc? Great!

*Are grades not up to par? Not feeling emotionally upbeat? Make sure you and your child
know that there are resources and people to help!

*For students, have them talk to their teachers... ask what can I do to improve my grades. If
they are not "feeling" upbeat....are they eating right? exercising? sleeping? If all those are
YES, and your child is still not their usual self, then maybe they need to see the school counselor  or an outside source.

For parents, please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns about being a parent. I am always looking for topics that parents want to know more about. Let me know and I will find the right resources to help all of us be better at parenting!
