What a great day we had last Sunday as we kicked off our "Walk in Love" stewardship campaign! From our overflowing children's chapel procession to our beautiful Junior and Community Choir anthem to our guest preacher to our 9:15 Family Faith Talk, the morning was a celebration of all that we do for children and families, and an expression of all that we hope to be able to do in the years ahead.
One of the gifts of Good Shepherd is the opportunity we have to minister to the young people in our midst. We share with them the stories of God in our Godly Play and Brick by Brick Sunday school classes. We teach them the ways of Episcopal worship in our Children's Chapel and form in them a love of Episcopal hymnody in our Junior Choir and Community Choir. We give tweens and teens a safe space to talk about the difficult choices they face in today's world during Sunday School, and offer them an opportunity to form faith-based friendships in Youth Group and Club 45. We help parents gather in our Parenting Forum so that they can support, encourage, and learn together how to "Walk in Love" in our daily lives.
Helping to form young people in the faith and teach them to follow Jesus is an incredible privilege. And as Spider-Man says, "With great privilege comes great responsibility." Helping children to find the voice of God amidst the ever-louder voices of this world requires resources. It requires time, energy, effort, volunteers, commitment, and, of course, money. To continue to offer all of the great programs that Good Shepherd has for children, youth, and families, we need the support of the whole community. Your gift to Good Shepherd during the stewardship season helps us raise the next generation in the faith, even as we grow our own. We hope you'll join us in this privilege and responsibility.
