Despite this pandemic, LMM holds an unwavering commitment to take care of every resident and participant in need.
While we are continuing our work on the frontlines prioritizing the needs of our clients, we cannot do this alone. With your help, we can provide our community's most vulnerable populations with the supplies and support that they need to survive COVID-19.
When the potentially devastating impact of COVID-19 became clear in early March, it became necessary to allocate and prioritize our human, financial and physical resources to provide the most essential services: sheltering adults, families and youth; providing meals to shelter residents; and supporting the health and well-being of persons under guardianship. Reentry Week 2020: End Recidivism for Women Now
C4C students at LMM's Savor 2019
Reentry Week supports successful reintegration and collectively addresses policy barriers that perpetuate reinvolvement with the criminal justice system. In the past 40 years, the number of women in U.S. prisons has increased by a shocking
800%.
One of the ways LMM is tackling this is through our
Chopping for Change (C4C) program, which provides women in prison with vital tools to successfully reintegrate back into society once their sentences end. LMM has continued C4C classes through distance learning tools during COVID-19. We believe education must continue so these women have the best chance possible to successfully reintegrate once released.
Graduates who have been released and are working in the hospitality industry are struggling in some cases. LMM is stepping in with care packages to help them make ends meet until restaurants reopen and they can get back to work. Through Reentry Week and beyond, LMM is here for our participants, past and present.
on Monday, May 1st to ensure adequate funding for housing and shelter is included the next federal relief bill. Advocates are urged to ask their Members of Congress to include $100 billion in rental relief, $11.5 billion to address the needs of people experiencing homelessness and a uniform national moratorium on evictions and foreclosures in CARES 2.0.
