Happy Pride Month from LMM!

Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry recognizes the importance of equity, inclusivity and treating everyone with respect and dignity, no matter what they look like, how they identify, or who they love.

LMM Submits Letter to FTC Addressing Tenant Screening

The Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau recently asked organizations and advocates to provide insight into the ways tenant screening processes including background checks, credit checks, and eviction history impact renters and property managers. LMM submitted a comment letter based on feedback and insights that were raised in a conversation with staff partners at the Men’s Shelter at 2100 Lakeside Avenue in May. Topics highlighted in the conversation and shared in this letter include the barriers that individuals with criminal records, low or no credit scores, and an eviction history have when looking for housing. The letter also highlights how these barriers have furthered the legacy of redlining, and made finding housing for people of color incredibly difficult.

This letter will be shared with LMM’s Congressional Delegation and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Marcia Fudge. Read the full letter below.

"Gina Miller, who has been incarcerated for six years and has since earned her GED at the prison and associate’s degree through Lutheran Metropolitan Ministry, said at the ceremony that she plans to continue to work with Ohio Means Jobs until the day she leaves. Miller, who currently lives at NERC while working a job out in the community, is getting ready to move to a halfway house (a residence for people transitioning from prison to the community) and has trained Hutsenpiller to take on her role."
