Older Americans Month 2020 celebrates older adults and the great contributions they make in our communities. Many of the individuals served through LMM's Guardianship Services programming fall under the category of older adults. The Administration for Community Living has made the theme of this year's observation of Older Americans Month "Make Your Mark", highlighting that everyone, including older adults, have the ability to make their mark on their communities by sharing their time, talents, and experiences with others.
As we know, our older adults are especially vulnerable to COVID-19. It's important that we do as much as we can for them, while remaining physically distant. Call and check in on your older loved ones, run to the grocery store for them, or send them a card.

LMM Guardians Reduce Stress During Pandemic
COVID-19 has caused stress that has reached all ages, including older adults. Not being bale to participate in normal, daily activities can spark anxiety in us all, but when independence is already limited for individuals who need guardianship, consistency in routine can make all the difference. Even from afar, LMM guardians are providing that.
Mr. W. lives in an assisted living facility and is under the care of an LMM Staff Guardian. He has a fiduciary who sends him spending money on a regular basis, which he uses to buy groceries and personal items each week. Due to COVID-19, Mr. W. is not able to leave the facility and cash his checks in order to purchase his items, which is causing him anxiety and stress. Luckily, Mr. W.'s LMM Staff Guardian is able to purchase the items he needs and bring them to the facility for him.
This is a small act of kindness, but for Mr. W., this has been impactful for him to still have some semblance of normalcy and independence during this time.
