LMM’s Office of Advocacy is thrilled to have been selected as one of 24 organizations to be awarded a grant from Cleveland VOTES’ Equitable Civic Engagement Fund!

These funds will allow LMM to continue its voter engagement work by hosting an event focused on local and statewide issues. Specifically, the program will focus on what an issue campaign is, how an issue is put on the ballot, and the power citizens have in the issue process. Stay tuned for more information, and, in the meantime, make sure you are registered to vote in the August 8 election!

LMM Staff Attends NEOCH LGBTQ 101 Training

At LMM, we recognize the importance of offering an inclusive, safe environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless' (NEOCH) LGBTQ 101 Training educates attendees on how best to meet the needs of people who identify as LGBTQ+ who come to social service organizations for help, and how to make these folks feel welcomed. Attendees also learn what anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination looks like in housing access and other systems, what the law says about it, and how they can advocate for progress.

Thank you to NEOCH for hosting this informative training and to LMM staff members who were in attendance!

Keeping Up with Rising Rents in Ohio

In a recent article, cleveland.com reported that Ohio residents must make at least $19.09 per hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment at fair market value without spending more than 30% of their income on housing.

But with the average renter making $18.47 and Ohio minimum wage only being $10.10, being able to afford rent with one full-time job alone is becoming more difficult for the state’s average renter, according to a recent report published by the National Low Income Housing Coalition.
