“All Hands on Deck!”

Commitment Weekend

This weekend, all MPLC members are asked to make a commitment for their intent to give to God’s mission through MPLC in 2027. A Stewardship Appeal packet should have already arrived in your home mailbox, including a Commitment Card (extras are available at church).

Your response matters! Thank you for doing your part to make sure our “ship” reaches the destination God intends for MPLC.

If you can’t make it to worship in person this weekend, you can return your Commitment Card by US Mail, or click the link below to complete an online form.

Building Project Information Session Video Now Available

On October 4, Ron Londré presented an Information Session in the Fellowship Hall to update members on the developing water mitigation project for MPLC in 2027, Project Shipshape. Technology did not cooperate that day to allow him to share his visual presentation, but he has since recreated it in video form. To learn more about the water intrusion problems at MPLC, the multi-year steps of investigating the problem and seeking solutions, and a timeline for presenting Project Shipshape to the congregation for approval on Feb. 14, 2027, please click the button below. Many thanks to Ron for making the video!

MPLC Youth Reformation

Pretzel Fundraiser

Sundays, October 18 and 25, 2026

8:30–8:50 a.m. in the Narthex

10:00–11:00 a.m. in Fellowship Hall

Did you know that German-style pretzels are shaped like arms crossed in prayer, with three openings symbolizing the Holy Trinity. In honor of Reformation Sunday, MPLC Youth will sell pretzels before Sunday service and during coffee hour. Hot pretzels will be available during coffee hour, with frozen pretzels available to take home. Proceeds will help support youth attending the 2027 ELCA Youth Gathering in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Open Table

Sunday, Oct. 18

MPLC will serve the next Open Table Community Meal on Sunday, Oct. 18. Fifty volunteers are needed each month. Still needed for October are volunteers for set-up, food servers, youth volunteers, and clean-up crew.

New Children’s Sermon

Collectibles Launched

Last Sunday, Pastor Nathan introduced our youngest children of God to a new children’s sermon focus. The Wonders of Worship (WOW) series teaches kids about a part of the worship service each week, using a set of beautiful “trading cards”. Kids will collect their cards each week in folders that are left at the Welcome Desk for them to pick up before worship. If your child missed worship last Sunday, they can claim their own collection folder and catch up this week!

Giving in Action

What Could MPLC’s Endowment Fund Do for Your Project? Twice each year, the MPLC Mission Endowment Board considers grant requests to extend God’s mission. In recent years, endowment grants have funded seminary tuition, MPLC choir robes, security cameras for local partner churches, and the freezer used for Open Table food donations. If you or your group have an idea for ministry, education, or outreach, apply today! The next application deadline is November 1.

Pick up an application in the church office or apply online today at the link below.

Afternoon Movie Matinee

“Show Boat”

Sunday, October 25 at 1:00 p.m.

Show Boat is a multi-generational musical drama that follows the lives of performers aboard a Mississippi River floating theater and explores the effects of racism, interracial relations and marital strife. The captain's daughter, Magnolia Hawks, marries Gaylord Ravenal, only to be abandoned by him in Chicago when his gambling addiction leaves them destitute. Magnolia overcomes adversity to become a successful singer, raising their daughter alone while her story intertwines with that of Julie La Verne, a biracial star performer forced off the boat due to racist laws.

The length of this movie is one hour and forty seven minutes. Join us in the Fellowship Hall for popcorn and a movie!

Book Club

Sunday, Oct. 25

The next meeting of MPLC's Book Club is Sunday, Oct. 25 at 11:30 a.m. in Mygatts.

The title of the book selection is, "Sisters of the Southern Cross" by Jean Grainger.

Seeking Volunteer To Tie Ribbon Bows

For years, MPLC has recognized All Saints Sunday with ribbons draped on the altar railing, with the names of our loved ones written on them. Afterward, a volunteer ties each ribbon into a bow, which is used to decorate a tree in the narthex for the holidays. Our longtime volunteer, Cindy Lester, has moved to Washington state, so we’re seeking a new tie-er of bows for this early November project. If you can help, please let Becky Litwin know!
