Worship at MPLC this Holy Week

This week marks the pinnacle of the church’s liturgical year and a chance for Christians to draw close to Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice for us on the cross. We can think of the worship services for Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter as recalling one, extended story of the last week of Jesus’ life.

We began the Lenten season on Ash Wednesday kneeling at the altar, reminded of the depth of our sin. On Maundy Thursday, we return to the altar and remember that we are forgiven in Jesus Christ. We receive Christ’s body and blood in Holy Communion in remembrance of him. The depth of loss we experience on Good Friday, recalling Jesus’ death, makes way for our joyful celebration of resurrection life on Easter.

Join MPLC and the whole, global church in worship this week at all of our Holy Week services:

Easter Vigil Worship, Sat. April 4

5:00 PM – Easter Vigil Service at

CARTHAGE COLLEGE'S SIEBERT CHAPEL in Kenosha

This is the night of salvation! At the Vigil of Easter, we gather around fire, word, water, bread, and wine, proclaiming through story and song that ours is a God who continuously brings life out of death. On this night we experience again the heart of God’s baptismal promise and the center of our faith: we are claimed and cleansed, renewed in the death and resurrection of Christ. We gather with all the saints of every time and place to celebrate the good news: Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia!

The approximately 2-hour service will be followed by a champagne reception at 7:00 PM.

Easter Sunday, April 5

9:00 AM – Festival Service of Holy Communion

10:30 AM – Easter Breakfast

This is the day the Lord has made! Christ is risen, and through him all creation is made new! Indeed, “God shows no partiality” (Acts 10:34): Christ’s resurrection truly brings life to everyone. We sing hymns of praise, gather around sacred words, and proclaim God’s faithfulness, power, and love in the feast of holy communion. With the women at the tomb, we are astonished, elated, and grateful. We depart with joy to proclaim the good news of God’s endless love.

Easter Breakfast to Benefit Confirmation Campers

On Easter Sunday morning, everyone is welcome to remain after the service and enjoy a meal together in the Fellowship Hall, prepared by David Fanelli. He will be assisted by members of the Parish Activities team, as well as some Confirmation participants who will be attending a week of camp at Lutherdale this summer. Donations for the meal will support their camp registration fees.

Meal costs are being supported by two Thrivent Action Team Grants for this community event

Pray Without Ceasing

Wednesdays in Easter Season

On Wednesdays from 6:30-7:00 p.m. starting next week, we will gather for a short, weekly time of prayer in the sanctuary. This time will include a fresh, weekly prayer liturgy sensitive to the concerns of the day, and conversation with others about our prayer concerns.

For what and for whom do we pray?

  • We pray those who have lost jobs or vital services.

  • We pray for peace, and for victims of war.

  • We pray for government leaders.

  • We pray for respectful conversations in our communities.

  • We pray for those experiencing anxiety.

  • We pray to be renewed as faithful disciples.

  • We pray for our faith community and for the renewal of the church.

Join us at the front of the sanctuary, around the altar, on Wednesdays starting April 8th.

Wednesday 11:00 AM Bible Study

to Return Next Week

As we resume weekly Bible study in the Easter season, our theme will be “What Surrounds Sunday”. In the daily lectionary, texts appointed for the three days before Sunday are meant to serve as preparation, and texts appointed for the three days after Sunday are meant to serve as reflection. So for Bible study (perhaps after spending time with these daily readings on our own), we will take a look each Wednesday at these daily texts that surround the Sundays in Easter, bringing the themes that we have noticed that week and seeing how the scriptures are in conversation to tell the story of God’s salvation.

With Sympathy

We remember Dan Smith, Parker and Hannah on the death of wife and mother, Janell Smith, on March 30. Services will be held at MPLC on Thursday, April 9, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.

Rest eternal grant her, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon her.

Dial-a-Sermon Interest?

During our Covid days, MPLC was able to use a free app to enable folks to call a dedicated phone number to listen to our sermon podcast. This gave people without internet access a way to hear the weekly sermon. Support for this app was since discontinued, but we are exploring another possibility that would be free to callers. Please let the church office or pastors know if you or someone you know would be interested in such a service, so that we can assess its feasibility. (Remember: you can also access our sermon podcast through our website or your podcast app!) Thank you!
