News from the Art Room!

What a wonderfully creative school year it has been in room 3 - our art studio!  Some classes explored printmaking while others utilized their problem solving skills with clay!  We finished the year out with everyone painting! Young 5s painted rainbows in response to all of our rainy days.  1st and 2nd graders created "self-portrait" dot paintings of their hands.

I want to thank parents and grandparents who were able to make it into the art room and help out this year and encourage you to consider helping out in the art room next school year!  I also want to thank you for encouraging your child to make and create outside of school! Throughout this school year I have taught them that any time they are building, creating, and making, no matter if it's with legos, sand, paper, paint - it is ART!  I have taught and encouraged them to repurpose items to make art! Make paint out of dried up markers, create animals or other sculptures out of recycled cardboard, and draw, cut and glue from paper you might be throwing away. This summer after they've enjoyed a popsicle...tell them to think of the book It's Not a Stick , and encourage them to create something out of that popsicle stick!  Before tearing down a box for the recycling bin, remind your child of the book, It's Not a Box, and have them create something out of the box!

Again, I welcome you to contact me if if you are wondering what's available for your child this summer in the art world...I have lots of ideas!  Enjoy your summer and I look forward to seeing you again in our NEW art studio!

Thanks for a great school year,
Debbie Farrugia
