Prayer Concerns This Week
"First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions,
and thanksgiving be made for everyone, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity."  1 Timothy 2:1-2

The Prayer person for the week is Jonathan Yount. Let us be prayerfully aware of Jonathan as well as all our members and friends.

Prayer Concerns: The family of Bill Williams, Marilyn Powell, Fred Bierach, Peter Farwell, Eleanor Johnson

Long term concerns : Joan Auge; Jacob Basilotto; Emma Burden; Tim Carroll; Jonathan Hofstetter; Ed Jung; Brett Lambie; Mary Ann Leach; Despina Koch; Mary McSweeney; Jacob Mendelsohn; Leigh Millar; Melissa Millar; Donna Monica; Dale Norby; Geoff Reilly; Bill Shoppell; Ed Shrum; Linda Lee Smith; Ralph Smith; Ginny Zimmerman; those struggling with addictions and mental illness.

Military: Sarah Davis Brown; Morgan Daniels Colberg; Michael Fahey III; Robin Fiorentino; all those in our nation's service.

From Our Interim Pastor
“Arise, for your light is come!” still ringing in our ears, the week seemed determined to obscure the message of epiphany. The light of the sun could not penetrate the devastating fires in Australia. The earthquake in Puerto Rice disrupted generators providing electricity to large parts of the island. Growing tensions between countries deemed the hope of peace on earth. Lives were tragically cut short in unexplainable ways. Facts were ambiguous. Truth was uncertain. The right felt wrong and the wrong felt right.

The inspiring and positive words from L.R. Knost came with much needed perspective.
“Do not be dismayed by the brokenness of the world.
All things break. And all things can be mended.
Not with time, as they say, but with intention.
So go. Love intentionally, extravagantly, unconditionally.
The broken world waits in darkness for the light that is you.”

I felt that Paul’s words to the Corinthian congregation would fall on more welcoming ears this Sunday, rather than the week to which the Revised Common Lectionary assigned them. We need to be reminded of the grace of God that has been given to us in Christ Jesus, how we have been enriched in Him, and how we are not lacking in any spiritual gift as we “wait with confidence for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 1:8). The word apocalypsis can be translated as revealing or unveiling. We long and work for the day when all the benefits of Christ’s life, death, resurrection, and ascension will be fully unveiled, and Christ’s light will shine over the healed world in fresh and radiant brightness.

Pastor Osy

Welcome into Membership
This Sunday we welcome into our fellowship Colin Fischer-Jones and Heather Roessler. Their daughter Adia Roessler Jones will also be receivimg the Sacrament of Baptism this Sunday.

Colin Fisher-Jones joins us by re-affirmation of faith. He was baptized and confirmed at the Church of Visitation, RCC, in Brick and grew up at the Jersey Shore, living in Manasquan for the last 20 years. He is a graduate of Manasquan High School and received his B.A. in Liberal Studies at Virginia Wesleyan College. He and Heather met while working as sports photographers and were married in November of 2010. For the past 10 years, Colin has worked in the swimming pool industry. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, and, as an avid sportsman, Colin enjoys running, hiking, and time at the Jersey shore. Photography continues to be a hobby and he has started learning to play the guitar. His first experience at this church was attending the 4 pm Christmas Eve Family Service two years ago and since finding out that his friend, Ryan, is an active member of the church, he has been attending more regularly.

Heather Marie Roessler joins us by re-affirmation of faith. Heather was baptized at First Presbyterian Church of Arlington, in Kearny, NJ, where she grew up. She graduated from TCNJ with a degree in psychology, and after working as a photographer for Star News Group, returned to graduate school. Heather earned a Masters Degree in Education and an Educational Specialist degree in school psychology, which she uses daily in her work as a School Psychologist at Point Pleasant Borough High School. Heather and Colin are the parents of 6-year-old Adia. Heather's areas of interest include yoga (she is a certified instructor), running, hiking, reading and photography.

What Do You Know?
A New Year in Sunday School
As we begin a New Year, we look forward to learning new things and meeting new people. The most important person we can know is God. Of course, we'll never know all there is to know about God, but we can know God best through Jesus, who showed us how much God loves us.

While studying passages from the New Testament about Jesus' early life, we'll highlight:
  • Knowing God is the most important thing.
  • If you want to know God, start with Jesus.
  • Discovering what’s in the Bible can help you make the wise choice.
  • If you don’t understand something about God, ask.
Our "Life App" this month is Knowledge-Learning something new so you can be better at whatever you do. The more we know God, the better we can live His way each day. Please check our Preview Video for January.

If your child hasn't visited us yet at Sunday School, the New Year brings an opportunity for a fresh start! You can download the Sunday School Registration Form Online and bring it to church this Sunday.

Future events such as Anniversaries and Birthdays can be reserved on the flower chart and payment can be submitted closer to the date. Flowers are God's gift to us all!

Star Words
As we observed Epiphany last Sunday, Pastor Osy passed out "Star Words." Everyone picked a star that contained a word they are encouraged to meditate on and put into practice throughout the year. Later in the year, Pastor Osy will be checking up on how everyone is doing with their word.

If you did not receive one and would like one, please speak with Pastor Osy.
