From Our Interim Pastor
Presbyterian congregations all around the country are turning to Jesus’ parables in the 25th chapter of Matthew as a way to prioritize and focus their work in their local communities.

Matthew 25 has been issued as an invitation to all PC(USA) churches to serve boldly and to make the world a just one for generations to come. Some of the actions that Jesus highlights in his teaching include things that faithful disciples we have been doing all along, like feeding the hungry, clothing the naked and visiting the sick and imprisoned. The challenge these days is to take the next step to explore the root causes that create much of the suffering and injustice in our communities, societies and the world.

As our guest preacher reminds us this Sunday that “We Are Called to Be Disciples,” I reflected on the areas of discipleship that the Presbyterian Mission Agency has suggested as important areas of engagement that have the potential to bring people with different views to work together for the common good. The three focuses of discipleship are: building congregational vitality, dismantling structural racism, and eradicating systemic poverty.

I can think of a few additional issues that we can also tackle that could strengthen our witness, help our churches to become a more relevant presence in the world, and improve the future of generations to come. As the Session reviewed the proposed action steps that the last 2 years of the New Beginnings Process have suggested, it is not hard to see how several of our proposed initiatives have wide-ranging applications that will allow us to show the love and compassion of God as we seek to follow the way marked out by our Lord, Jesus Christ.

I am confident that the Spirit is guiding us and will give us the vision and the courage to be the most effective disciples we can be.

Blanket Sunday
Coming together to cover our neighbors
For many years, Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church has been helping to keep our neighbors warm by providing blankets to families here in the United States and around the world through Church World Service Blanket Program.

Watch the above video and see how CWS Blankets were used this past Summer in Dayton. Ohio.
"I think People don't normally think blanket's in the summer,
but they really met a great need."
On Sunday our church has an opportunity to provide hope to many families by providing a blanket. For only 10 dollars, you can give a blanket that can provide warmth and shelter, comfort and privacy, and healing and hope wherever God's people may need care. We have so much to share, so please give generously. Thank you.

What Do You Know?
A New Year in Sunday School
As we begin a New Year, we look forward to learning new things and meeting new people. The most important person we can know is God. Of course, we'll never know all there is to know about God, but we can know God best through Jesus, who showed us how much God loves us.

While studying passages from the New Testament about Jesus' early life, we'll highlight:
  • Knowing God is the most important thing.
  • If you want to know God, start with Jesus.
  • Discovering what’s in the Bible can help you make the wise choice.
  • If you don’t understand something about God, ask.
Our "Life App" this month is Knowledge-Learning something new so you can be better at whatever you do. The more we know God, the better we can live His way each day. Please check our Preview Video for January.

If your child hasn't visited us yet at Sunday School, the New Year brings an opportunity for a fresh start! You can download the Sunday School Registration Form Online and bring it to church this Sunday.
