From Our Interim Pastor
The morning Psalm for today is one of my favorites: Psalm 84. I can’t read the opening phrases without hearing Brahms’ sacred and stirring centerpiece of his Requiem:

“How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of Hosts!
My soul longs, indeed it faints for the courts of the LORD...
Happy are those who live in your house, ever singing your praise.”

I appreciate the free paraphrase offered by Eugene H. Peterson in Psalms:

What a beautiful home, Yahweh of the Angel Armies!
I’ve always longed to live in a place like this,
always dreamed of a room in your house,
where I could sing for joy to God-alive!

One day spent in your house, this beautiful place of worship,
beats thousands spent on Greek island beaches.
I’d rather scrub floors in the house of my God
than be honored as a guest in the palace of sin.
All sunshine and sovereign is Yahweh,
generous in gifts and glory.
He doesn’t scrimp with his traveling companions.
It’s smooth sailing all the way with Yahweh of the Angel Armies.
Rev. Peterson’s version expresses many of the sentiments going through my mind as my sojourning with you, my ministry traveling companions these past 2 years, is nearing its end. What a wonderful experience it has been!

God has not scrimped with us, and the many memories we take with us will be reliable reminders of God’s generosity and faithfulness.
Point Pleasant Beach is certainly a beautiful place to live – no need to compare it to Greek island beaches. And Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church has indisputably been a beautiful place of worship and ministry. I will try not to make comparisons in the future, but it will be hard. You welcomed us with open arms and found your way into our hearts so that the last two years seem to have flown by.

All has not been smooth sailing, but the Lord has given us everything we needed to overcome many challenges. We know that even the unprecedented and distressing experiences of these days are not the final word. The future rests with God and God has promised to lead us all the way.

I have the privilege of leading worship for two more Sundays as we continue to celebrate the Spirit’s work among us. God is not done with us yet!

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; God bestows favor and honor.
No good thing does the LORD withhold from those who walk uprightly.
O LORD of hosts, happy is everyone who trusts in you.

Let us continue to trust the hand that guides and leads us from strength to strength.

IHN Important Update
Our scheduled IHN week starts this Sunday, August 9-16th. We are pleased to announce that the one family staying at the day center has moved into their own home.

Being they are no longer in the program we currently do not need meals for the week. We do need to be on call to provide dinners if another family comes into the program, which can occur at any time.

A family from a volunteer church purchased a home and is renting it to the IHN family who just left the program. Someone else heard about the family's need and donated furniture that was being used to staged a house. How wonderful it is when we consider the needs of others!

Should a family enter into the program and meals be required once again for this upcoming week, Barbara Reusch will reach out to those who volunteered for the week.
Sunday Volunteer Needed
The technical team continues to make improvements each week so that video and sound are transmitted from the sanctuary into your homes every Sunday morning. We are in need of more volunteers to ensure that several people know how this is all done and we don’t depend on just a few. Please consider how you can assist from monitoring the Zoom meeting, to coordinating sound, to guiding the camera, etc.

Contact Peter Farwell (908-675-7287 or pfarwell@aol.com) with your questions and your area of interest.

Sanctuary Flowers
Flowers and Sanctuary Cross
This Sunday you will notice something back in the Sanctuary....flowers! For those who have signed up for flowers and did not get an opportunity to have their flowers in Church, we will be contacting you to reschedule your date. Those who have already signed up for scheduled future dates will find their names listed in the weekly online newsletter on the date chosen.

The flowers this Sunday are given by Marilyn Rice and Margie Meklin in loving memory of Peter Rice.
Care Corner
The last five months have not been what we were expecting by a long shot. As we enter the sixth month of life during COVID 19 we prepare to say farewell to Pastor Osy.

I don’t know about you but I feel like this ending snuck up on me. I’m not so good at good byes. To be honest I’m not so good with change overall, especially change I’m not too happy about.

But one thing we know for sure…. change is inevitable. We best make peace with this fact and find some sort of comfort in not having control. There is a peace in surrendering to the will of God. There is peace in realizing that we don’t have to work so hard to make things go our way. This is helpful news right now while we are living in this space of unknown. Whether it’s adjusting to a new Pastor or a new kind of school year, we will survive. If we let go of a need to control outcomes we may even find we can thrive in the new.

In the meantime though, have some compassion for all of the unknowns we are facing. Take the time to celebrate our last two weeks with Pastor Osy. Take the time to celebrate the last few weeks of summer. Find the gratitude in our day-to-day gifts. It will help us move through change, even the changes we aren’t too keen on. Breathe, pray, wear a mask and wash your hands!
