Mother Jenn: Welcome to Lent!

....

In this season of contemplation of our mortality, fasting, repentance, and almsgiving, it is my intention to offer you a variety of tools and experiences to help you grow in your relationship to God. Lent is a time for changing our hearts so that we can return to God — who is always waiting for us to return. Even though the season is somber, it is embedded in our belief that we are loved through the grace of God. We return in love to God, who greets us in love. Private confession during Lent is a customary practice. As Anglicans, we believe that “all may, some should, none must." If you would like to have a personal confession, please schedule time with me by emailing me at rector@trinitylawrence.org.

....

As we look forward to Easter and the Resurrection, we will be having adult baptisms at the Easter Vigil and child baptisms on the first Sunday after Easter. Please contact me at the email address above if you would like to be baptized.

....

May you have a blessed and holy Lent,

—Mother Jenn+

In the Library

Our collection represents 2,011 authors, most with only one book, but Joan Chittister has 14. Joan Daugherty Chittister, O.S.B., is an American Benedictine nun, theologian, author, and speaker – an outspoken advocate of justice, peace and equality. She was one of two nuns prohibited by Church authorities from attending the first Women's Ordination Worldwide conference in 2001.. .

“Called to Question: A Spiritual Memoir” (271 Ch) – Each chapter is an engaging dialogue between Sr. Joan and many different wisdom sources about such topics as God's existence and call, experience, struggle, justice, the role of women and men in society and church, living through doubt, and celebrating life.

“The Gift of Years: Growing Older Gracefully” (200.84 Chi) – Powerful individual chapter-essays on issues such as gratitude, loss and legacy as we age. The chapters are a few pages each.

News from Nepal

.....

Hi everyone,

Please just keep praying for our work at the sewing center for the next few weeks. We have a big custom order due, and 100% of the women (me included) are sick. Over half of them are off work as a result. I am still holding out hope that we can complete this order on time, but it will take God's intervention, for sure! Also, a big "thank you" to those of you who contributed toward the replacement of my compression pump sleeves that were eaten by rats. I now have the funds I need to replace them. Please be praying they are delivered in time for a friend to bring them with her to Nepal later this week.

Blessings,

—Karín

TEST Tidbits: The Miracle of Soil

.....

Here are some interesting facts about soil: Soil is home to one-fourth of the earth’s species with only 1% identified or studied. Most of our food is grown in soil. However, we are losing topsoil more than 10 times faster than it is formed. Soil stores more carbon than the atmosphere and forests combined, aiding in the fight against climate change. It provides for the growth of plants and trees that provide food and habitat for other creatures. Healthy soil helps prevent floods and mitigates drought.

.....

Our Ash Wednesday service informs us that we are part of this soil – within the ecosystem of God’s creation. As the palm branches once sprouted, grew and were harvested and burned into ash, we too participate in the cycle of birth, growth, maturity and death. But, in the “now,” we are yet maturing into God’s purpose for us. Thanks be to God.
