From the Rector’s Desk

I am pleased to announce that Jonah Brandley will be joining the Trinity staff in June. Jonah will have two areas of responsibility. The first will be to provide office staff coverage in the morning and early afternoon. The second will be to provide staff support to our visitor, newcomer, and membership ministries. Jonah is no stranger to Trinity; he is also a peer minister at the Lawrence Canterbury House and a student at KU.

In addition to following up with visitors to our parish, Jonah will also be organizing regular events for new members and maintaining our membership directory, so keep an eye out for announcements from him in the newsletter in the future.

You can reach Jonah at [email protected] or through the parish office.

Yours in Christ,
Fr. Rob+
Adult Form

The Adult Forum looks at James and his letter.

James, the brother of Jesus, was a major figure in early Christianity despite not being one of the twelve Apostles. The Adult Forum will look at James the person, his life and his writings, and how they apply to our lives today.

  • June 2 #6 The Pressure of Retaliation

The Adult Forum meets at 9:30 AM on Sundays in the lower Jackson Kemper Room.
Tamale Time!!

Once again this year Lawrence Interfaith Refugee and Immigrant Ministry is teaming with Centro Hispano to sponsor scholarships for undocumented students attending local colleges and KU. Undocumented students came to the US as children with their parents. Many have not known any other home, but the United States. In Kansas they are able to attend college at the resident rate, but they are not eligible for any federal or state financial aid. There are few scholarship programs that they can qualify for.

LIRIM and Centro Hispano annually sell tamales to raise funds for scholarships. Last year we sold over 2500 tamales and supported six local students.

If you have been looking for an opportunity to support the local immigrant community through assistance or awareness, here is your chance.

You can buy tamales, sell tamales and/or come and help us make tamales.

We'll be making tamales on Friday June 14 and Saturday, June 15 at Trinity Episcopal Church (10th and Vermont). I will send you a Signup Genius message in your email which you can use to sign up for 1 or more 2-hour shifts.

This is really a lot of fun and a great community building activity. Come and bring your friends.

Please click on the button below to view the online sign up sheet.

How Can I Help?

The Trinity Summer Art Auction is shaping up to be the event of the summer! However, it will only be a success with a lot of help. Here's what you can do:

  • Be a host at the event. Circulate among the folks at the auction, thank them for coming, answer questions, and keep everything running smoothly.
  • Help provide refreshments.
  • Help set up the art early on Saturday morning.
  • Help figure up the winning bids.
  • Help with cleanup.
  • Spread the word about the auction: Saturday, June 29, 1:00 to 5:00 PM. A live Americana/country band, Sissy & Earl, will play on the church lawn and there will be free refreshments.
  •
Look for Vera King and Camille Olcese in the parish hall during coffee fellowship after 8:00 and 10:30 worship. They will happily sign you up to help in any of these capacities.

The Bottom Line

The Vestry reviewed the April 2019 financial reports for Trinity at their monthly meeting on May 28th. The financial highlights for the first four months of 2019 are below. A full set of monthly financial reports can be found on Trinity's website under "Resources/Finances"

Total CYTD Income:

Budgeted: $147,066.64
Actual: $211,886.30*
Difference: +$64,819.66

*Actual CYTD Income includes $28,555.00 from the "Above & Beyond" Fundraising; recognition of $19,908.45 of 2019 Prepaid Pledge Income; and an unexpected stock gift of approximately $20,000.

Total CYTD Expenses:

Budgeted: $143,580.36
Actual: $133,151.62**
Difference: +$10,428.74

**Actual CYTD expenses are below budget primarily due to Total Salaries & Benefits running below budget, due to open staff positions during the first few months of 2019. (All of the previously open staff positions have now been filled.)

Trinity's financial resources are currently sufficient to support regular operations as budgeted, including regular Diocesan apportionment payments. It is very helpful to Trinity's cash flow for everyone to keep their pledge payments current as we move through the summer months, when many are out of town. Thank you for your financial support of Trinity and our ministries!
