Trinity's e-newsletter for the week of January 5, 2020
O God, who wonderfully created, and yet more wonderfully restored, the dignity of human nature: Grant that we may share the divine life of him who humbled himself to share our humanity, your Son Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
Here are the latest opportunities to strengthen
your faith and connect with the community.

From the Rector's desk...

Some of you may have seen on Facebook that on New Year's Eve I took an accidental fall down a stair and badly sprained my ankle. I wasn't skating or anything exciting like that; I can't even say I was partying for the holiday – I had just finished Chinese takeout and was heading downstairs to watch television. In any case, if you see me hobbling around, that's the reason.

One of things I do (when I'm not breaking parts of me) is engage in the daily discipline of journaling. I usually write up the various headings, etc., in the journal weeks in advance, and a week or two ago I was prepping for 2020 by making a page in the journal for jotting down New Year's resolutions. Except that as I was writing the heading in the journal I was briefly distracted and wrote "2020 Solutions" instead.

This turns out to be the kind of unexpected blessing that crosses our paths from time to time. Rather than think about all these different geas I could place upon myself, instead I asked myself, "What are the solutions I am looking for in the upcoming year?" And, as I posed each one, I asked, "And how is God part of that solution?"

Because, for each issue, each challenge, each problem, God can and should be part of the solution, whatever it may be. Perhaps it is God's strength, or wisdom, or endurance that will be needed. Perhaps you just need to know that someone has the answers to questions that you cannot conceive. But whatever it is that you might be seeking to solve, it's a good resolution to get God to be part of the solution.

Yours in Christ,
Fr. Rob+

Women’s Quest-ioning Group

Our women’s Quest-ioning group invites all members of the parish to join us in a 10-week video series of Journey of the Universe: Conversations. Inspired by his work with Thomas Berry, Brian Thomas Swimme takes us on a journey of the evolution of the universe. Mary Evelyn Tucker converses with notable scholars about the development of the universe, the emergence of the earth and our place in the ongoing process.

We will meet in the Jackson Kemper Room (beneath the Parish Hall) from 1:30 to 3 on the second and fourth Thursday of the month from Jan. 9 through May 28. Please use the entrance off the parking lot that leads to the kitchen. An informal group discussion will follow each video.

This film will present a new relationship with the earth and its inhabitants. Since this series is open to everyone , it is important for our committee to have some sense of how many people might be attending.  Please call one of the members below to let us know that you are interested in attending the program.

Deborah Burns 331-9673; Louie Galloway 312-1669; Pat Miller 841-8294; Prudy Sieg 424-7667; Tudy Youngberg 218-2283

TEST Tidbits: A Prayer for the Beginning 0f 2020

The following is a prayer circulated a number of years ago by the Interfaith Power and Light umbrella organization for Earth Day activities (with a few minor changes). It is also very appropriate as we begin another new year. May we all double our effort to become even better Earth Stewards.

CLIMATE PRAYER

WE HOLD THE EARTH! (WE ALL HOLD THE EARTH IN OUR HANDS!)

*We hold brothers and sisters who suffer from storms and droughts intensified by climate change.
*We hold all species that suffer.
*We hold world leaders delegated to make decisions for life.
*We pray that the “web of life” may be mended through courageous actions to limit carbon emissions.
*We pray for right actions for adaptation and mitigation to help our already suffering earth community.
*We pray that love and wisdom might inspire our actions toward creation care as individuals, organizations, communities and governments.
*We pray that we may, with integrity, look into the eyes of our brothers and sisters and all living beings and truthfully say—we are doing our part to care for them right now and for coming generations.
*MAY LOVE TRANSFORM US AND OUR WORLD WITH NEW STEPS TOWARD A NEW UNDERSTANDING OF CREATION CARE

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM ALL OF US ON THE TRINITY ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP TEAM (TEST)!
Margaritas for Margarita

Start the New Year off right by having dinner and supporting the Hispanic immigrant community in Lawrence. Join Lawrence Interfaith Refugee and Immigrant Ministry for our next "Margaritas for Margarita" event at Merchants Pub and Plate restaurant, 746 Mass St., on Tuesday, Jan. 14, from 4 to 9 p.m. A percentage of your purchase will be directly donated to LIRIM partner Centro Hispano, a social service agency serving the Hispanic immigrant community of Lawrence.
Forward Day by Day for November, December and January is ready in the track racks. Let it be part of your daily life whenever you take time to pray and meditate. Contemplate the passage of scripture. Then see the connection to the other passages referred to. Read the meditation and perhaps make your own. Pray for the people of the diocese for the day. Imagine how those Anglicans are praying.
Coffee Hour

Thanks to all the families that provided fine foods for the Coffee Hours. Sign up sheets for January and February are posted. If you would like to provide snacks and work the coffee pots, there are many openings to choose from.

Support Bishop Seabury Academy: Purchase Your Grocery Cards through BSAP

Each month Bishop Seabury Academy Parents provides the opportunity for parents, staff and friends to purchase gift cards for local grocers HyVee, Checkers, the Community Mercantile, Natural Grocers and Sprouts.

The grocery card program is the primary funding source for BSAP. The cards are sold at face value and BSAP receives a discount on their purchase.
BSAP receive 6% of the card value from HyVee, Checkers and the Merc, and 5% from Natural Grocers and Sprouts.

BSAP needs to have your order by the 15th of every month in order to include it in the following month's orders. For example, order by 10/15, and your cards will be available on 11/1 with Betsy at the school office.

See the link below for detailed info.
Family Promise

The mission of the Family Promise program is to transform the lives of homeless children and their families by providing safe shelter, food, counseling and training in partnership with local communities of faith through hospitality and daily living support in a compassionate setting. The program is designed to address the needs of families and equip them to move into permanent housing as quickly as possible. Trinity partners with St. Margaret's on this mission.

St. Margaret's host week is Jan. 26-Feb. 2. You must have received the official training to interact with the guests. If you do not have training and are interested in volunteering during one of these times, please let me know and I can arrange to complete the training with you.  Signup is at:

Sunday School Assistants – Assist Susan once a month with our children during Sunday School class time.
