From the Rector’s Desk

As we wrap up the school year and move into the summer months, I hope you will join with me as we not only welcome our newest bishop, but also recognize the invaluable ministry of our Sunday School teachers this past school year at the 10:30 AM service.

But as we transition to the summer months we need to continue to minister to our children during the worship service. With Mother Susan's departure, we will need more than ever to work together to help shape the Christian life of our youngest members.

Simply put, I need volunteers to help with programs for children during the first half of the 10:30 AM service. With a good sized group, we can rotate between volunteers to make sure everyone has a chance to continue to participate in worship and provide sufficient coverage.

If you are interested, please contact me so we can begin to assemble a program to make sure that our children continue to grow in their faith through the summer months.

Yours in Christ,
Fr. Rob+
Adult Form

The Adult Forum looks at James and his letter.

James, the brother of Jesus, was a major figure in early Christianity despite not being one of the twelve Apostles. The Adult Forum will look at James the person, his life and his writings, and how they apply to our lives today.

Tamale Time!!

Once again this year Lawrence Interfaith Refugee and Immigrant Ministry is teaming with Centro Hispano to sponsor scholarships for undocumented students attending local colleges and KU. Undocumented students came to the US as children with their parents. Many have not known any other home, but the United States. In Kansas they are able to attend college at the resident rate, but they are not eligible for any federal or state financial aid. There are few scholarship programs that they can qualify for.

LIRIM and Centro Hispano annually sell tamales to raise funds for scholarships. Last year we sold over 2500 tamales and supported six local students.

If you have been looking for an opportunity to support the local immigrant community through assistance or awareness, here is your chance.

You can buy tamales, sell tamales and/or come and help us make tamales.

We'll be making tamales on Friday June 14 and Saturday, June 15 at Trinity Episcopal Church (10th and Vermont). I will send you a Signup Genius message in your email which you can use to sign up for 1 or more 2-hour shifts.

This is really a lot of fun and a great community building activity. Come and bring your friends.

Please click on the button below to view the online sign up sheet.

TEST TIDBITS: MONSANTO’S ROUNDUP WEED KILLER—SHOULD YOU USE IT?

Spring has produced an abundant growth of nice plants and beautiful lawns and many unwanted weeds, especially poison ivy. The first instinct might be to go off to the garden shop or hardware store for some chemical to get rid of the offensive plant. Recently, there have been renewed claims that the most popular weed killer, Roundup, has been linked to causing cancer. Some stores have even removed Roundup and replaced it with 2-4-D, known as part of Agent Orange (potentially even more dangerous than Roundup.) However, there are natural remedies that will work and cause less trouble for the environment. If you would like to read the full article, please click on the following link.

EARTH STEWARD ACTION: Do some research to make an informed decision concerning Roundup. As good Earth Stewards, we all must be ready to make every day decisions that will honor the health of the earth as a first priority. It is in small actions multiplied that will keep our planet healthy.
