You are invited to stand on Ridge Avenue between 12:10pm and 12:30pm to support the Black Lives Matter movement.  Signs and buttons are available for purchase at the back of the sanctuary. Signs and song lyrics will be provided for use.  Sponsored by the REAL team.

The Chris Isely Cancer Support Group -  9:15am
The group is open to anyone facing cancer, either personally or through a family member or friend. This lay-led group is a safe place for sharing and hope. Interested participants are encouraged to drop in any time. Questions? Contact Renee Hoff  or Brian Meister.
Hospitality This Sunday  hospitality
We will need last minute volunteers on Christmas day to usher and pass out hymnals and be welcoming 'angels'. The hospitality team members may not attend in enough numbers to fill the roles. Step up and offer to help if you are coming Sunday morning to either service. Either find Shirley Adams and offer to help - or just fill in the gaps as you see them. We need ushers, greeters (for those out of town guests we expect), money counters, recycle assisting, and generally lots of offers of good cheer and warmth.
Board Calls Congregational Meeting to Vote on Eileen Wiviott's Ordination
Sunday, January 8, 12:30pm  congregationalvote
The UCE Board of Trustees is very pleased to share with you that we voted to hold a Congregational Meeting on January 8 to vote on the Ordination of Eileen Wiviott. We ask for your attendance at this short meeting. It is important that we have a quorum. She has chosen UCE as the congregation she'd like to ordain her. Click here for Eileen's letter.
Amnesty International Letter Writing  amnestyinternational
Sunday, January 1, after both services
Write a letter requesting the release of an innocent prisoner. We will have sample letters, paper, envelopes, stamps. The letters are sent to an official who can affect the release of the innocent prisoner. Your letter does not have to be long. Your letter will be combined with millions of others from around the world. You can help change the lives of these innocent prisoners. Join us in the far back of the church near the windows. For more information: www.amnestyusa.org/write4rights.
From the Syrian Refugee Committee syrianrefugeefamily
The Syrian Refugee committee is asking for donations of 100% cotton yarn. We would appreciate donations of  4-ply yarn in colors that are neutral/natural (not bright red, and not white). Fattoum, the mother of the family, is a good knitter and crocheter and we hope that she can make dishcloths to sell. Because the dishcloths will be used to clean---we want to avoid light colors (such as white) and we've heard that red and other bright colors tend to bleed--so please note this.  Please place your yarn donations in the Refugee Family box under the coat rack. If you have questions, please email Jeanne Kerl and thank you for considering this!
Guest at Your Table guestatyourtable
As families gather around the table during Christmas, please remember to save a seat for Guest at Your Table. Your donations support the social justice work of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee. Add coins and bills to your box; and if you write a check or collect $125 or more, your gift will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Shelter Rock Church. What a great way to contribute during this season of giving. Bring your boxes back to church at our multigenerational service on January 29. You can leave them in the office if you cannot find a member of the Denominational Affairs Committee (Karen Courtright, for example!).
UCE We Stand Together -

On Saturday, January 21, starting at 10am, there will be a march in Washington, D.C. and in cities across the country (including Chicago). Its purpose is to show "solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families, recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country".  You can read more about the mission on their Facebook page Women's March on Washington.

If you want to go to D.C., or have already made arrangements to go, we invite you to join with other Unitarian Universalists as a statement of organizational support, and increased solidarity. The Women's Circles have selected Julie Milner to coordinate a group from UCE. Click here for more information .

Religious Education for Adults adultREyoga
The Practice of Yoga
Tuesdays, February 7, 14, 21 & 28, 7-9:00pm
(How) do the yoga sutras apply to contemporary yoga practice and contemporary life? How do these philosophies intersect with and diverge from Unitarian Universalist principles? What does it mean to be a yoga practitioner? Although yoga is most often recognized by its physical postures (asanas), practitioners may also use breathing techniques (pranayama), meditation, chanting, and dietary restrictions.  Historically, yoga was more of a philosophy for living than an exercise regimen, including ethical guidelines for personal growth.   We will use Patanjali's  Yoga Sutras, considered one of the foundations of classical yoga practice, as our historical touchstone and Michael Stone's book  The Inner Tradition of Yoga as a way of connecting the sutras to contemporary life.  Suitable for practitioners, those considering becoming practitioners, and those who are interested in learning about the practice that is becoming widespread in the United States, including two classes weekly at UCE.

Facilitated by Jessica Tomell Presto, UCE member and certified yoga instructor.  Register here   or on the Religious Education bulletin board.
Yoga at UCE yoga
Join us every Sunday at 8:15am and every Wednesday at 9:30am.

**Note - There will be no yoga on Sunday, Dec. 25, Wednesday, Dec. 28, or Sunday, Jan. 1. We will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 4

Yoga at UCE is designed to reduce stress, bring relaxation, increase range of motion, and find balance - restorative yoga. If you never have done yoga before, this is your opportunity. Drop in, wear comfortable clothing for stretching, and try it. Yoga is learned by doing. Community yoga mats provided if needed.

One Book, One Church

Claudia Rankine's "provocative meditation on race," Citizen: An American Lyric, is our collective book for this year. Why not buy it from Book H to give as a Christmas gift? We will be holding discussions in February and March, so start reading! Called one of the best books of the year by The New Yorker, Boston Globe, the Atlantic, and many more, the book's essays, images, and poetry present "a powerful testament to the individual and collective effects of racism."
