July 29, 2018:  What are the Limits of our Lives?
Jim Prochaska

The study of limits is a major theme of modern math and physics.  Contemporary psychology and theology could expand from deeper dives into limits that define our lives. What are the limits of our minds and our hearts? Can we imagine that there are parallel universes? What are the limits that define families and communities? How do we expand the time of our lives?

Jim is the Director of the Cancer Prevention Research Center at the University of Rhode Island. He started attending Muskegon College on a scholarship to become a Presbyterian Minister and ended up at Wayne State University with a PhD in Psychology. Jim has been a Pledging Friend of UUCM since the spring of 2016.
August 5, 2018: When You Lose, You Gain
Lisa Cohen
This sermon grew out of a poem that Lisa wrote that was widely appreciated. Many people have positive life changes when something "bad" happens in their lives. Lisa will talk about changes in her life from her experiences and in others' and will explore why some people gain from negative experiences and others don't.
Lisa is a long time member of UUCM and is the editor of our weekly newsletter and other smaller newsletters. She was our webmaster for many years. In her spare time, she writes poetry and takes photos of flowers on her smartphone. She displays her poetry on a website and a blog and has published some poems in newsletters. She enjoys listening to classical and jazz music and being out in nature when possible. She is a graduate of Antioch College.
