Overview: Ohio, selected for the National Governors Association (NGA) Learning Collaborative on expanding EMS roles in overdose prevention, announces free training sessions. Led by the Ohio Department of Public Safety, the initiative aims to identify best practices for EMS in reducing opioid overdose deaths through bridge programs and partnerships with mental health resources.
Speaker: Stephen Murray, paramedic and national overdose speaker, will provide three presentations, sharing his experiences as an overdose survivor and the impact of recovery paths.

Background: Ohio has the seventh highest drug overdose mortality rate in the nation, with the opioid overdose death rate highest in rural areas. This training emphasizes the importance of bridging patients to mental health resources post-overdose, highlighting medications like Suboxone® and the role of EMS in reaching at-risk individuals.
