The Ohio Legislature, State Medical Board, physician organizations, and numerous healthcare stakeholder groups continue to work on new laws for the governance of telehealth in Ohio. House Bill 122 is the legislation on this topic that is going through the General Assembly. The bill has passed the House and is now in committee in the Senate, where hearings and amendment discussions continue.
While this legislation is still under consideration, the current telehealth authorization was set to expire on December 31, 2021. To give more time for work on the legislation and provide continuity for physicians, this week the State Medical Board voted to continue current telehealth practices until March 31 of 2022 by extending their existing moratorium on enforcing in-person visit requirements.
