Justice Unit Member Attends United Nations meeting on Nuclear Disarmament
Diocesan Justice Unit member Katherine Murray took part in two back to back pilgrimages, of sorts, to further Canada's role in peace building. On November 15, 2024 Murray boarded a train to Ottawa along with members of other Churches. Their aim was to raise awareness of Canada's potential role in peace building, and to ask the federal government to fund a Centre of Excellence for Peace and Justice focused on research, education, and training in conflict resolution, diplomacy, and peace operations. On March 2 some of the Peace Train delegation embarked on a second journey: To the United Nations in New York to take part in the Third Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. They traveled to New York along with MP Elizabeth May.
Katherine Murray shared this reflection about her experience at the UN meeting.
