Because Lutherans are part of community. Sunday mornings are bustling at Emanuel's, but the corner of Travis and Mountain Streets is buzzing all week long. On Wednesday afternoon alone there were folk checking out the Little Free Library (above), a family in need referred by county officials to NAMI (one of our third floor Partner's in Service), and a new mom calling to ask if we provided childcare (Hello Day School!). Looking forward to a new year of working with and for our neighbors. We are better together.

WORSHIP AT EMANUEL'S

CHURCH COUNCIL & DAY SCHOOL BOARD

INSTALLATION

This Sunday we will install the 2024 Congregation Council (pictured above following their election in December) and Day School Board of Directors during worship. We give thanks for their willingness to serve. Join us as we rejoice that these brothers and sisters will lead us in our common life and our mutual mission as a congregation. Thanks be to God for these faithful servants of Christ!

BEING THE CHURCH

WE LOVE YOU, PAULINE!

The last Sunday service of 2023 was also Pauline's last day at Emanuel's. We celebrated her retirement and honored 25+ years of caring for the Emanuel's building and people as custodian. Her family was present for the blessing and kind words for faithful service, treasured friendship, and delicious tamales! ¡Salud, Pauline!

LOVE TO GO AROUND

Love was not in short supply on Sunday! The Music Ministry lauded retired Music Director Tom Engler with an afternoon dinner in the Women's Ministry Room. Stories were abundant as the new Director of Music and Church Organist Emeritus listened and shared years of inside jokes and memories aplenty. Bravo, Thomas!

Donations for the Christian Cupboard are collected all year long in the narthex and the Mountain St. entrance. Most needed items include shelf stable foods (canned meats and beans, canned veggies and fruits, peanut butter, cereals, boxed mac & cheese, etc.), hygiene items (hotel toiletries are great!), plastic grocery bags, and egg cartons. Thank you for helping our Guadalupe County neighbors in need.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

CHILDREN & YOUTH EDUCATION

CHILDREN'S CHURCH will return January 14 for our PK to 5th grade learners meets each Sunday. During worship the Vicars will lead students to designated classrooms, just down the hall from the sanctuary, as we begin the "Gathering Hymn" and then guide them back as we "Share the Peace." We hope you will make this a part of your family's weekly worship rhythm!

THE COMPASS COOPERATIVE is a weekly gathering on Sundays @6pm for 6th to 12th grade students, hosted by our four church partners - Emanuel's, St. Andrew's, Spirit of Joy, and Friedens Church- and held on Spirit of Joy's campus. We eat, worship, play games, and enjoy each other's company. Sunday, December 17 is the last gathering for the year. We will return to our regularly scheduled awesomeness Sunday, January 14 at Spirit of Joy.

SUNDAY ADULT CLASSES

Join Paul Sims and Pastor Marcus for an image and theme based study on one of the most unique yet beautiful books in the Bible. Its images and stories have captivated generations of theologians and worshippers alike and we invite you to jump into this wild adventure with us as we study the "Images in Revelation." Family Life Center, 9:15am. Extended through January 28.

THE HERITAGE CLASS meets at 9:15 am Sunday mornings on the 3rd floor in room 307. December, January, and February's study is Faith That Glorifies God. Participants explore the deeper meaning found in the Bible and seek to unlock its wisdom through fellowship and robust group discussion. The aim is to make the Bible relevant and applicable to daily life.

THE JOY CLASS: Bible stories and songs for adults with intellectual disabilities. Gathers at 9:15 on the First Sunday of the month in the Women's Ministry Room.

FROM THE OFFICE

Emanuel's regular office hours are Monday - Thursday from 8-5. However, if the office is understaffed, you may find the answering machine catching your call or a "Gone Fishing" sign on the door. Please know that we will get back with you as soon as possible. We encourage you to call before stopping by. Everyone is also accessible via email.

Look who is tidying the pews! It's Doris and Karen, our fabulous "Pew Ladies!" Every week they pop in to sharpen pencils, refill blue cards, line up hymnals, find lost earrings, and the like. Sunday mornings would be chaos with out them.

You can be an Office Angel! This dedicated crew answers phones, monitors the door, and assists with other tasks. Having extra hands and smiling faces around is a huge help. If you are interested, then please contact Sherry at [email protected] to find out more.
