From Father Jonathan +

I’m excited to announce two additions to our online presence at Resurrection. These are sermon videos and an online children’s ministry.

I have received many requests to add videos of only the sermon from each Sunday. To accommodate this, I will now be doing this early in the week following Sunday. These will be kept in a playlist on our church YouTube page, which can be found here:

Homily Playlist

I will now also be frequently uploading children’s church videos for our families and relations that may not be able to make it on a Sunday morning. Our first one is linked below.

Children's Church 10.26.2025

This is an exciting time at Resurrection. Thank you all for your ongoing support, and please share these with anyone you think might benefit from them!

This week on Monday was the time of the year when the church remembered and celebrated Cornelius the Roman Centurion. He, along with the Ethiopian Eunuch, were the first gentile converts to Christianity reported in the Bible. It caught the apostles off guard. Even after Jesus’ resurrection and return to the Father, Jesus still had a few surprises left for his followers. It is a good reminder of just how wide and radical the love of God is, and that we should always leave room in our hearts for God to surprise us.

We’re approaching the end of the season of Pentecost. If we remember all the way back to Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples and enabled them to speak the languages of people visiting Jerusalem from all over the world. Yet a detail of that moment in the text that we often forget is that the people who heard the disciples and heard the speaking of those many tongues were all Jews. To put it another way, even after Pentecost, the first disciples probably assumed that following Jesus would remain for Jews alone, even as they were sent out to the ends of the earth.

Then, Peter had a dream compelling him to act. When he awoke, he found three visitors sent to get him. He was compelled to go to the house of Cornelius, and upon arriving there and speaking with them the Holy Spirit was poured out on them. He was shocked, as were the other disciples. They exclaimed, “God has given even to the Gentiles the repentance that leads to life.”

God’s plan for humanity was bigger than even his closest disciples knew even after the pouring out of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Never assume we know the entirety on God’s plan for ourselves or the world around us. God’s love is bigger than we can possibly imagine. God’s calling of Cornelius and his household changed the church forever. Let us always keep our eyes open for God calling us to spread his Spirit in new and unexpected ways.

Episcopal Church Terminology

The Sanctus

The Sanctus is from the Latin for “holy,” a hymn of adoration and praise which begins, “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts.”

It typically follows the preface in the eucharistic prayer. It is sung or said by the celebrant and people.

The Sanctus is based on the song of the seraphim (angels) as recorded in Isaiah's vision of the Lord in the year King Uzziah died (Is 6:1-3; see Rv 4:8).

Construction Update

Outside work on Narthex completed

What a difference a week makes!

The outside work on the narthex addition has been completed now except for painting. The concrete contractor also completed the finishing of the walls on our east entrance and reduced the height of the bollards. Only the safety covers need to be installed on the bollards.

The installation of the handicapped door is all that remains for the east entrance.

On the inside, the TV in the narthex has been installed as part of our new media center, but electrical work remains to be done.

We are also getting bids to remodel the bathrooms on the main floor. Although we don't know what the cost is at this point, we hope to undertake that project soon.

Thank you everyone for your patience during these long-awaited projects.
