THIS SUNDAY

This Sunday

People come to church for lots of reasons.   They come out of habit and out of tradition. They come because there isn’t much else to do on Sunday. They come to see their friends and be seen. They come to give room for the joy and the trouble and the turmoil of every day.  They come, even the ones who in their hearts believe very little, with the idea that just maybe there is God ... or a God ... and showing up matters.

But I have a feeling that beneath all the reasons, there might be one, deep, underlying reason: hope.

Susan preaches on Luke this Sunday, on a deeply hopeful passage.  And we, for all kinds of reasons, will share in the sacrament of Holy Communion.

See you in church!

For the International Day of the Girl, the Prow Gallery in Halifax held a portrait show featuring pioneering women of all backgrounds. There was Pam Brown, a beloved member of our Saint Andrew’s community, a pioneer in sexual health, 2SLGBTQ+ advocacy, and other good things. The portrait by artist Jo Napier was commissioned by women leaders in Halifax, recognizing Pam’s important contributions to sexual education in Nova Scotia.

We celebrate Pam, especially this weekend as friends and family gather for the funeral of her husband Doug.

COMMUNITY NEWS

The Bible Study "Texts of Terror" begins this Tuesday October 22 and will meet in the Lower Fellowship Room from 6:30-8pm. Here is a link to this week's scripture passage.

Sunday Suppers is serving more people than ever, with more than 300 meals being served every Sunday.

More volunteers are needed each week. You can come at 3pm on Sunday to help or contact the church office if you'd like to learn more.

We launched our Amazon wish list last week. Look at this beautiful response received already this week. Saint Andrew's, you're amazing! You can view the wish list here.

There are lots of opportunities to get involved at Saint Andrew's!

Our Welcome and Coffee Teams and Sunday Suppers need volunteers; the choir is open to new members; and we need more volunteers to help with the offering on Sunday mornings. Reach out to Gail in the church office (info@saintandrewshfx.ca) if you can help!
